Queensland Greyhound Racing Moves Another Step Closer To Logan

Logan is a step closer to becoming a major greyhound racing hub, with the sport's peak control body commissioning a survey of Slacks Creek's Cronulla Park.

general manager said his organisation had hired engineers Sinclair Knight Merz to undertake a geotechnical survey of the former dump site to determine whether it would suit greyhound racing.

He said that with the of racing at The on the , Greyhounds Queensland hoped to a two-track facility in Logan which could host up to three meetings a week.

Mr Beavis said the survey was the first step in establishing a track at Cronulla Park.

“If this gets the tick-off, then we're pretty much good to go,'' he said.

The report is expected to be completed by April.

Cronulla Park has been the rumoured site of a new facility since the track at Beenleigh Showgrounds closed in 2003.

Mr Beavis said that if the development was approved, the $10million first stage of construction could take 12-18 months. Work could start as early as next year.

Logan Deputy Mayor Russell Lutton said the council supported the proposal in principle, but had not committed any funding.

He said the track would be a “fantastic'' addition to Logan.

State Member for Woodridge Desley Scott would not confirm whether she supported the proposal but said she was “not standing in opposition to it''.

Mrs Scott said she would prefer that the facility was usable by the whole community.

I think if it's going to be a greyhound track I want to make sure it's a mutli-use facility,'' she said.
