6 Greyhound Races You Might Have Missed But Shouldn’t Have

Brand new feature here on Australian Racing Greyhound – We are going to highlight all the hottest, weirdest, bravest and most notable races from the past week.

This week we've found 6 races from the past few weeks that might have flown under the .

1. Avid Tyson Breaks The Gawler Track Record

The first of these goes all the way back the 8th March when Avid put her foot down and set new figures for the 400m . Not surprisingly she backed it up a few days later with another win over the same track and distance to take her record to 18 wins from 35 starts for the daughter of Emerley Carlos and Avid Willow trained by Tony Lagana.

2. Regal Lauryn Runs Best Of Day At Ipswich

Stay tuned you may hear a lot more of this bitch in the near future if her pedigree is anything to go by. As you could probably guess, Regal Lauryn is a daughter of champion by Surf Lorian and she now has the imposing record of 8 wins from 14 starts with over $30,000 in prize money. Last week at Ipswich she put paid to them early and cleared out for an easy 30.45 best of day win. With early toe she will be a force to be reckoned with in feature events over the next few months.

3. Tassie Champion Rewind Makes It Win No. 52

Undisputed championTasmanian greyhound Rewind made it 52 wins from 84 starts and over $216,000 in prizemoney last week when he saluted yet again at his favourite track and distance over the Devonport 452m. The Maurie Strickland trained son of Collide and Ricky's Angel excels at Devonport and appropriately won the Reg & Aileen Ivory Memorial Trophy named in honour of the North Tassie greyhound industry legends. It is beleived he only needs to rack up 4 more wins to be the “winningest” greyhound in Tasmanian history and took another step toward that this afternoon winning again at his home track to record win number 53.

4. Red Skelton Breaks Maiden At Maitland

One for the blackbookers from 's Thursday twilight meeting last week on Thursday. Red Skelton a young greyhound by upcoming sire Goodesy out of Curi Lee; was having just his second race start at the Hunter Valley track and could not have been more impressive. After failing at his first run and finishing unplaced, the red brindle greyhound trained by Tony Callaghan overcame a slightly tardy getaway to race to the lead and gap them, winning by a casual 12 lengths in the good time of 22.63. To put the run in perspective some very handy greyhounds went around later in the day in the Maitland Gold Collar heats and didn't go a whole lot quicker. Mark him down – he'll be winning plenty.

5. My Signature Puts In A Huge Performance At The Gardens

Those who have been in the game for any length of time will have heard of Hunter Valley trainer Harvey Sweetman's reputation for getting difficult dogs going; so it should come as no surprise that Harvey and his wife Lena have a potential superstar in the kennel in the form of My Signature. The son of Talk's Cheap and Signature Rowe chalked up his 7th win from 14 starts at last Friday over the 515m, but it was the manner in which he did it that was so impressive. Coming off a near record 515m win two starts back, My Signature was tardy early and shuffled back on the inside before making what looked like a race winning run down the back straight. Unfortunately fate conspired and the 31kg dog was stopped in his track and then galloped on from behind and all looked lost. Watch the replay to see what happened next. The fact he went with in a length of the best of the day time should tell you just how impressive the run is. Mark this greyhound down; he has a huge huge motor and will be something special to watch over the middle distances.

6. Sniper's Shot Makes It Two Near Record Runs In A Row

The Ben MacLean trained Sniper's Shot has certainly found some form at over the 297 lately. Coming off a near track record run of 17.06, the son of Hallucinate and Sadie Sage went within a whisker of doing it again just a week later recording 17.10 and taking his record to 10 wins from 16 starts. Remarkably this greyhound only recorded 1 win from 4 starts in Victoria in slow time at Shepparton (23.71) before heading to WA where he has thrived. In 12 starts in WA Sniper's Shot has record 9 wins and 2 seconds with only 1 unplaced run. These flying short course greyhounds don't often get the accolades they deserve but we believe Sniper's Shot & Ben MacLean are more than worthy of our attention.
