Ritza Hattie wins 2015 group 2 Gosford Gold Cup

Thirlmere trainer Mark Gatt kicked off his 2015 racing campaign in style at Gosford last night, as Ritza Hattie was victorious in the $40,000 Group Two Gosford Gold Cup. Exiting from box eight, Gatt wasn’t overly confident heading into the race with Zipping Willow drawn ideally in box one, however this multiple Group winning chaser had other ideas and produced a brilliant come from behind display in front of a packed Gosford venue.

Rue De Kahn was best away from box two and was quickly joined by early flyers Magic Display and Jewel Action who took the early lead. Heading into the back straight, Ritza Hattie was positioned nicely behind the two front runners and made her move turning for home.

Rue De Kahn put in a brave effort for trainer Dean Swain and finished just a length behind the winner, with Farmer’s Gold rattling home for third, just another quarter of a length away. The daughter of Bombastic Shiraz and Midnight Flare clocked a flying time of 29.58, in notching up her third career group win.

Ritza Hattie now has 17 wins from 41 starts and took her prizemoney total to a staggering $226,565 after the performance.

Last week’s fastest qualifier Are Jip unfortunately took a heavy tumble, however had a veterinary examination, which thankfully revealed no injuries.
