2013 Adelaide Cup Series Warms Up As Interstaters Trial

Last Thursday night at the 2013 Triple M series really started to take shape with three greyhound's trialling from the powerful Victorian kennel of Jason Thompson and the second and third Preludes for the local SA sprinters leading into next weeks heats.

Jason Thompson trialled three of his outstanding chasers with 2 and winner Ronan Izmir trialling first in between races 1 and 2. A winner of 26 races with 9 placing's from his 42 starts and over $160,000 in prizemoney he was impressive in his first look at the Angle Park circuit running quick early and carving out a slick overall time. He went 4.47, 16.85, 29.77 for the 515m journey.

Next to go was Powerhouse who has won 15 races with 8 placing's from his 33 starts and prizemoney just over $56,000. He probably doesn't have the same reputation as his two kennel mates however he was probably the most impressive showing good speed and getting home strongly. He ran second in the Group 2 Launching Pad back in March and most recently impressed during the series. He went 4.49, 16.86, 29.65 for the 515m journey.

Last to go was Phenomenal who has had a boom on him since his race track debut 15 starts ago at Sandown when he won by 15 lengths in a sizzling 29.78 subsequently he has won a further 7 races with 3 placings and just under $24,000 in prizemoney. He has run a brilliant 29.27 at Sandown so all eyes were on the clock for his trial. He wasn't brilliant out however he really motored the last section coming home in 12.71 with overall times of 4.53, 16.96, 29.67.

The SA preludes gave the locals sprinters an easier opportunity to directly qualify for next weeks Triple M Adelaide Cup heats by running in the first three placegetters. The first prelude last week was won by Victa Brooke for Ron Shadow who won in 30.12 defeating Young and Allen Illem. Last night the Kathy Johnstone trained sprinter Encosta Kahn booked his spot by defeating Victa Sam and Token McLaren in a flying 29.89 in the second prelude and then in prelude three Significant Bit for Bob Isaacson upset the favourites by winning in a handy 30.00. She defeated Dolmar and race favourite Hope's Up who all qualified for the series. Subsequently to the running of the final prelude it was discovered that reigning , Hope's Up had sustained an injury and would be of the track for atleast 3 months and would miss the Adelaide Cup series.

Also missing from the series will be defending champion Spud Regis for Andrea Dailly who was to compete last night at Angle Park however due to a shoulder injury had to be withdrawn at scratching time yesterday morning. He will need at least 7 – 10 days to get over his injury so the champion will not be able to defend his crown.

In terrific news for the series recent Group 1 Megastar winner at , Peter Rocket for Victorian trainer Keith Hellmuth has confirmed his nomination for next weeks heats along with local cult hero Ernie Bung Arrow for Lewiston trainer Ken Gill. Ernie Bung Arrow has captured the imagination of greyhound racing fans around the nation after being bought for $800 he has won over $40,000 in prizemoney with 11 wins from 12 starts and now looks the best chance for SA to claim the local Group 1 feature.

Nominations close for the Triple M Adelaide Cup heats at 9.00am on Monday morning 30th September with GRSA with the fields to be released on Monday afternoon. The heats will be run at Angle Park on Thursday 3rd October with the $75,000 to the winner Triple M Adelaide Cup final on Thursday 10th October.
