Aston Kane SA’s Best Hope In Group Three SA Derby

The Group Three South Australian Derby is just around the corner. While the final is dominated by Victorian trained dogs, there is a chance that the Derby title will stay in South Australia.

The locally trained dogs in Thursday night's final are Lannister and Aston Kane. Lannister, a youngster by Premier Fantasy and ( – Corrumbene Lass), has had just the nine starts for two wins and seven placings. He has been consistent and to his credit, has made a Group Three final. Lannister is trained by Lewiston based trainer . He looks to be up against it in this race as he has drawn in the middle of the field and is surrounded by some very talented chasers.

Another Murray, in the form of Ray, trains one of the hot chances, Aston Kane. is based at Reeves Plains and has a few handy greyhounds in his kennel including Aston Thomas (20 from 52), Caramel Flirt (10 from 37) and Dashing Canute (4 from 6). Aston Kane has been outstanding in his short career, with the El Galo and Aston Elite () dog clocking up 14 wins from 16 starts. With the good draw, he is in this race up to his ears and represents a big chance of keeping the Derby title in SA hands.

Another chaser in the field with a South Australian connection is Texas Titan, who is locally owned by Nathan Wilson.

The trained Texas Titan is a brother to another Wilson owned star in Oakvale Destiny, the winner of last week's Group Three SA Oaks. Texas Titan and Oakvale Destiny form part of the Vapour Whirl and Footluce ( – Scarlett) litter that the Wilson-Trowbridge Racing Syndicate bred in 2012.

Some more flavour to add to the race is that this will be the second-time the Langton/Britton partnership will be looking to take out both the and in the same year. They achieved this feat back in 2011 with Mepunga Nicky and Yowyeh. “We have done it once already and we are hoping to do it again”, Langton told ARG.

The race is scheduled to jump at 9:41pm (SA time). Be sure to check out ARG's full final preview that includes comments from some of the trainers and an analysis of each greyhound's chances.
