GRSA Summer Chasing Carnival In Full Swing For Adelaide Cup Semi Finals

Week three of GRSA's summer chasing carnival is upon us and things are starting to heat up faster than the Adelaide weather. With four semi-finals Tattsbet.com Adelaide Cup scheduled to be held Thursday night, along with seven heats of the John Gray Memorial, it's definitely one for the racing purists.

This follows what was an excellent night last Thursday, which saw Symmetry follow up his Cup win with an impressive victory in the Interstate Challenge. Octane Show and Greywinds Doll were going stride for stride up front, but neither of them could match the mid-race burst of Robert Britton's versatile chaser. His box eight record is looking better by the week with four wins from the outside alley. This recent version was completed in 29.75 for the 515m journey.

Another box eight specialist, Satanic Cash added to the night by landing the $30,000 . It was a textbook ‘Cash' victory with a forceful finish that left handy race leader Aston Rachael with windburn in the home straight. Much overdue was a feature event win for Bob Isaacson and his black staying star.

The Adelaide Cup series is where much of the interest lies at this time of year and the first two from last week's heats have progressed will now join the sixteen seeded greyhounds. Fastest heat winner was former Victorian Dark Duo who managed to lead all the way in 29.69, while runner's Shaiane Bale and Bremerton Bale were the only others to crack the 30-second barrier.

Loyal readers of Australian Racing Greyhound would have been on board five of the eight heat winners last week, so let's hope the good from can continue again as we preview the four semis of South Australia's premier sprinter event.

Tattsbet.com Adelaide Cup Semi-final 1

Selections 1) Octane Show 2) Dark Duo 3) Kalden Athena
As mentioned earlier Dark Duo was the quickest of the heat winners by a clear margin and is beginning really well since coming to Adelaide. His first split of 4.44 was great but being in box two this week may not suit him. Octane Show uncharacteristically missed the kick in the Interstate Challenge but it was his first look at the track. He should improve and may be hard to stop. Kalden Athena enters the series as a seeded entrant after being beaten a whisker in the Laurels final last month. A repeat of the 29.58 S.A Oaks run would be see victory but it'll be hard to cross the two previously mentioned runners from box seven. Rev Limiter and Shereen Bale and rough chances for the multiples, along with Uno Blackjack who ran well from the same draw last week. Hard to see Cosmic Planet or Katcha Kihael figuring from awkward draws in a hot field.

Tattsbet.com Adelaide Cup Semi-final 2

Selections 1) Up And Away 2) Cosmic Chief 3) Salvador Bale
Up and Away is a reliable beginner and should be able to win. Particularly as Penthouse has drawn is inside it and usually crashes over to the rail. That should also help out Cosmic Chief in six who was an eye-catching run after being crunched from four last week. He's loaded with talent, has experience and can't be taken lightly. Salvador Bale comes up with box one again and may well be in the finish if there is early trouble along with S.A's best chance in who has drawn seven. Penthouse too but will need luck. It seems safe to exclude Garis Garis, Shaiane Bale and Pedro's Destiny who seem likely to find the class rise a bit much.

Tattsbet.com Adelaide Cup Semi-final 3

Selections 1) Kilty Lad 2) Bremerton Bale 3) Greywinds Doll
There should be some good value for handy dogs in this race as Kilty Lad will probably be warm favourite. He won the Group 1 Silver Chief in slashing style and in racing in career best form, but there is a doubt over him at Angle Park with no wins in three tries and plenty of speed underneath him in this event. Greywinds Doll is a type who can beat anything on her night, but is hard to predict. She jumped quickly from box two last week and did well in a hot field. With the same draw again she'll be tough to toss if she can find the front. Bremerton Bale won in 29.94 from the cherry draw last week and is another who has the identical alley and the ability to win. Random Test is a lightly raced local who will need luck from box four, but is a chance at odds on his home deck. Same can be said for both Boston Blackie and 's Gift who are excellent dogs with horror draws for this type of race. The only runners who can't be recommended are Gable La Flash and Led Zeppelin. Although they are far from slow, it seems unlikely that either can run the sub 30-second time required to hold out a field of this calibre. Whoever rounds the first bend in front should win this but it's hard to predict who that will be.

Tattsbet.com Adelaide Cup Semi-final 4

Selections 1) Perfect Fancy 2) Symmetry 3) Where's Fly
Looks like only three main chances in the fourth and final semi. The connections of Where's Fly will be loving the red box, especially after leading all the way from box two in the heat. He should be in front down the back, but he'd need to improve his overall time to hold his competitors. One of those who'll be charging home is the Interstate Challenge winner Symmetry. His win last week was brilliant in hammering a strong field in 29.75. He goes into box four though, which raises questions over how much room he'll have early in the race. Perfect Fancy is a solid competitor who must surely be in the finish. On the of his last two Group 1 campaigns, it would be a surprise for a runner to miss the final. If there was a knockout chance, Graeme Bate's Dyna Forte loves the track and the wide draw isn't bad. It'll be big odds but one for the multiples, along with kennelmate Tonelli Bale who comes out of the Laurels series in good touch. Special Freddy is an up and comer, but the class rise is steep. Strictly Mambo may well have lost its chance after drawing box five but is far better than Woodside Woody who may start triple figure odds.
