Gun Mcbain fires in Gawler Cup final
GUN Mcbain justified his short-odds of just $2.00 in Sunday's Group 3 Gawler Gold Cup final, leading all the way from box two for Middle Beach trainer Vadim Roz.
The son of Spring Gun and Flame Mcbain was the fastest qualifier for the final after a sizzling performance on Tuesday, clocking 30.37. Roz would've been delighted with the effort, lowering his personal best to a near-record 30.33 over the 531m journey.
Laurence Cahalan's Hailstorm Billy made up good ground to finish five lengths behind the winner with outside runner Emerley Lover finishing third for Troy Murray.
Roz had a memorable evening at the Gawler circuit, claiming the trifecta in the Gawler Sprint Classic Series over 400m. Aha Mcbain defeated Young Gun Mcbain and Taser Mcbain, with Roz collecting $6,875 in total prize money.
Gun Mcbain's win tonight was the 24th of his career from start 46, taking his prize money total to an impressive $62,495. Roz will no doubt be keen for his talented chaser to return to Gawler in the near-future, with an impeccable record of five wins from seven starts and two minor placings, simply outstanding.
