High Eden Frost to give his rivals a chill in Sprint Championship

HIGH Eden Frost (Banjo Boy x Zardae Feb ’15) will be aiming to collect his first feature race success when he lines up from the coveted rails alley in this Thursday’s Listed SA Sprint Championship (515m) at Angle Park.

Trained at Eden Valley by Jan Jones, High Eden Frost was a brilliant winner of his heat last week, leading all the way from box six to defeat the fast finishing Becky Bale (Farley Blitz x Gail Allen Oct ’14) by three quarters of a length in 29.79.

It was his first start since December 21 and his first victory since winning his heat of the Group 3 Gawler Cup last October.

“He has been racing against top company for a long time so we decided to give him a break for a couple of weeks and we brought him back fresh for this race,” Jones told Australian Racing Greyhound.

“We were absolutely thrilled with his performance – it wasn’t his ideal box and he had a couple of quick beginners either side of him.

“As it worked out they all ran in a straight line to the first turn and he was able to get over – that’s the key to him – if he can find the fence by the first bend then he is usually hard to beat.”

He will face a stiff challenge in the decider up against the flying Hukanui (Kelsos Fusileer x Daddy’s Muffin Feb ’14) which won his heat in a flying 29.52 and Adelaide Cup finalist Cairnlea Kenny (Premier Fantasy x Cairnlea Ellie Apr ’15).

Although he only scored by a narrow margin in his heat, Jones is quietly confident he can improve heading into the $15,000 to the winner final off the one box.

“He only just hung on, but I thought he showed a lot of spunk and I would hope he gains a bit from the run after a few weeks off,” she said.

“He is a versatile dog but I think box one is his favourite so I am glad he drew well – hopefully he can do what he did in the Adelaide Cup off box one and lead.”

High Eden Frost has been one of the most consistent chasers in Victoria in recent months, having finished third in both the Group 1 Adelaide Cup and the Gawler Cup.

All up he has won 20 of his 46 starts for Jones and has earned $63,290 throughout his career.

Jones said he has been a dream greyhound – alongside his litter mates High Eden Snow and Dream A Little.

“We bought three pups for the litter sight unseen and they have all done very well for us.

“I don’t think we have ever had harder chasers – they are all so determined – and they have already given us a lot of thrills.

“It would be great if he could win the final, but we’ll just take it one day at a time and go from there.”

The Listed SA Sprint Championship will be run and won at Angle Park this Thursday night.
