Port Pirie Greyhounds Racing Suspended By GRSA
Greyhound Racing at Port Pirie has been temporarily suspended to provide Greyhound Racing SA with an opportunity to address issues that have been identified in relation to the track surface and Club equipment.
The suspension will take immediate effect and racing will only resume once the track surface has been cleared as being of a suitable and safe standard for racing.
GRSA will transfer the meeting dates of February 6 and 20 to another venue, details of which will be released imminently.
At the race meeting of Sunday January 16, stewards were advised upon arrival of equipment issues relating to the water-cart and roller.
After the running of the seventh race on the card, stewards became concerned that the condition of the track had deteriorated.
They were also of the opinion that additional water would not make any difference to the surface.
As a result of a further track inspection, and taking into account the unavailability of an operating roller, the stewards decided to abandon the remainder of the meeting.
A delegation from GRSA will meet with Members of the Port Pirie & District GRC Committee early next week to discuss the matter.
