Psychotic Gold The One To Beat In SA National Distance Final

Petar Jovanovic almost looks to have a mortgage on the SA National Distance final at Angle Park on Thursday night; qualifying three runners for the final including fastest heat winner Psychotic Gold. The Foster family will be looking to challenge Jovanovic’s chances with brother and sister duo Token McLaren and Zara McLaren.

Here’s a look at each of the finalists;

Box 1 – Jacko Lankan (Petar Jovanovic)

Jovanovic’s first runner is probably his longest shot of winning. The Vapour Whirl and Molly Corleone (Token Prince – Miss Corleone) dog finished five and a quarter lengths third behind Token McLaren last week . He doesn’t have a great record from box one and his last win was back in May this year.

Box 2 – Long Gully Surf (Paula Hearnden)

Long Gully Surf has met Psychotic Gold in four of his last five starts and has been beaten convincingly each time. Last week, the Surf Lorian and Blue Palace (Go Wild Teddy – Queen Mint) dog went down by 14 lengths to finish fourth. He has only run one placing in his last five starts so is likely to find this just a little too hard.

Box 3 – Kaylarikki (Raymond Burgess)

The Path To Power and Spence’s Girl (Our Spence – Dharma) dog is yet to record a win over the staying trip at Angle Park. The closest he has come is a second placing behind Psychotic Gold last week; but he was over 11 lengths behind the pace. It doesn’t look like he can overcome the likes of Psychotic Gold in this race.

Box 4 – Psychotic Gold (Petar Jovanovic)

Psychotic Gold has been the in-form stayer coming into this series and the Vapour Whirl and Molly’s Gold (Bond – Resigned) bitch was dominant last week, winning by more than 11 lengths in a best of night performance of 43.13. It was her fastest win at the track and she looks the one to beat.

Box 5 – Genghis Kahn (Kathleen Johnstone)

Genghis Kahn led but was run down by Token McLaren to finish fourth in his heat. The Brett Lee and Another Request (Collision – Double Guess) dog is yet to prove he can stay, now failing twice over the trip. He may lead this field but he will struggle to hold on.

Box 6 – Defib Daryl (Petar Jovanovic)

Defib Daryl has shown he is capable of running the 731 metre distance, winning three from seven over the staying distance and placing on three other occasions. The Talk’s Cheap and Shakira Orchid (Tommy Quick – Lynishia Star) dog has gone 43.26 back in April this year. He was beaten just three quarters of a length by Token McLaren last week. He is a good each-way chance.

Box 7 – Zara McLaren (Helen Foster)

Zara McLaren was third behind Psychotic Gold last week and based on that she will need to improve to feature. Her last win was back in May but the Token Prince and Stevie McLaren (Stately Bird – Jay Lo McLaren) bitch has been very consistent, running a place in her last five starts.

Box 8 – Token McLaren (Donald Foster)

Of the two siblings, Token McLaren looks the best chance. He is a winner of nine from 13 at the track and has the fastest personal best in the race of 42.89. He ran his best in November last year. He won last week’s heat in 43.58 from box four. He has three wins from box eight and will present as the main danger to Psychotic Gold.

Reserves

Victa Victoria (9) was fifth behind Psychotic Gold last week. She is relatively new to the staying trip so may struggle against some of ether seasoned stayers in the final if she gains a run. Husky Dreamer (10) ran fifth to Token McLaren in the heats. He has just two wins from 36 starts over the 731 metre distance so he will be at long odds to take this out if he was to gain a starting place in the final.
