Third Time Lucky For Boozeroo To Break Through In Gawler Gold Cup

South Australia's most exciting sprinter, , has taken out the 2010 3 Bunyip with a dashing all-the-way win. As is so often the case with this black speedster, punters sent her out favourite, starting $2.20 with the big night bookmakers.

Some before the race may have seen that price as ‘unders' considering the quality of the field, with the eight runners having nearly 100 wins between them. Both Random Test for Rob Harnas and Where's Pancho for Peter Jovanovic looked right in it with impeccable records at the track, while Wandy Prince was probably the standout heat winner.

Bandanna Lad had the best of the box draw and looked a real chance after ending Strictly Mambo's winning run to earn its place in the $29,000 final.

Adding to the pre-race intrigue was the query about Boozeroo's big race box manners. Having starting favourite and missing the kick in both the Group 3 Final and the South Australian sprint leg of the , the pressure was on 's runner to hit the mark this time around.

As soon as the lids rose, the pressure was off as the daughter of and Explosive Flash raced away and set the clock alight with splits of 3.21, 15.86 before running a hot 30.59 for the 531m.

Random Test got past the tiring Where's Pancho to run second, while Bandanna Lad came from second last early to grab third place prize money.

It was Boozeroo's 18th race track victory and takes her career prize money to well over the $100,000 mark for owner Barry Guy.

The Consolation event was also an entertaining affair, with Noah Bale continuing to improve for ever-successful trainer Shaun Matcott.

Having started his racing career in Victoria, Noah Bale took a while to adjust to the racing caper, and eventually was sent to S.A after winning only three of his first eighteen attempts. But the strike rate quickly zoomed once he got acquainted with the Angle Park circuit, with six wins in eight starts throughout August and September.

Also featuring on the program for Gawler's main night of racing last Sunday was the ever popular Country Cup series Final. With clubs from all around the state competing in the series, it was no surprise to see another class field assembled.

But good draws in big finals are always a huge advantage and Aston Rachael made no waste of the rails draw. Having won her way in by representing the hills club of Strathalbyn, Aston Rachael was too strong over the journey and came away for a nice two and a half length win.

Having looked somewhat out of form a few weeks back, with poor runs at Angle Park and a less than impressive Cannington venture, Troy Murray has done a good job to turn the tables to take the $4200 on offer.

guru Ray Borda has had a nice run with his ‘Aston' line, with Aston Zip making the Gawler final and Aston Galilee winning features in Victoria recently along with countless others around the country.

Consolation Runner-Up, Fat Wreck deserves a mention for what seems to be a steep rise in fortune. After taking seven starts to break her maiden, Fat Wreck took vengeance by stringing together a picket fence of five wins coming into the Country Cup final. Although there was one dog too speedy this time around, it may pay to follow this youngster in its future endeavours.
