Talking Breeding: Collision litter of 11 a Moonshine special

THIS week’s review of litters selected from the NSW Whelping Report for the week ending November 15, 2015 starts with a nice litter of eleven pups by the extremely successful, veteran Australian sire, Collision (August 2001 Brett Lee x Rumble Spirit).

The five dogs and six bitches, registered by Clergate breeder, David Pringle, are from the beautifully bred bitch, Moonshine Pearl (September 2011 El Grand Senor x Kiacatoo Pearl) whose dam is by History Lesson x Naughty Thoughts (Go Wild Teddy x Ready To Rain).

She is from a handy litter of eight named, which included, Boppa Louie, Dusty Moonshine, Mack Station, Moonshine Lani, Moonshine Taylah, Moonshine Whippy and Wild Moonshine.

Their dam also has winners on file from each of her two other litters, whelped in December 2009 by Brett Lee, and May 2012 by Collison, which included the very fast sprinter Shakey Jakey, who is now standing at stud with great potential if he gets the right bitches and enough of them to make it count.

Moonshine Pear was lightly raced, with just nine starts which resulted in three wins and two placings, with wins over 515m at Gosford (29.84), 520m at Bathurst (30.07) with two placings and 535m at Richmond (30.91).

Two Fabregas litters

Dozen Oysters raced 16 times for five wins and six placings, winning twice over 420m at Lismore (24.24), twice over 407m at Grafton (23.03) and also over 311m at Cranbourne.
\
She has one previous litter on file, four dogs and four bitches, whelped in July 2014 by Barcia Bale, so she certainly has some well bred pups on the ground to tempt prospective buyers.

The Phillips – Blench Syndicate, from Toongabbie, has the other Fabregas litter, which is two dogs and five bitches from another very well bred bitch, Go Jessie’s Girl (July 2009 Collision x Go Mighty Mouse) whose dam is by Hallucinate x Smokey Melody (Farloe Melody* x Frisky Red).

Victorian list

Victorian Litter RegistrationsTURNING our attention to the Victorian Litter Registrations list for the week ending February 22, our first litter review is a nice litter of nine pups by the talented New Zealand bred, dual Group 1 winner, Above All (July 2012 Magic Sprite x Kara Janx) whose dam is by Fashion Thief (No Intent x Token Fever) from More Than This (Shining Kev x Little Girl Lost).

Registered by Lara breeder Shane Fisher, the four dogs and five bitches are from the very well bred, proven producer, Khumbu (October 2008 Where’s Pedro x Spalding Miss) whose dam is by Exceptional x Limburg Miss (Lively Monarch x Shirl’s Image).
Khumbu is from a litter which included, Limburg Rogue, Lively Pedro, Marceri, My Little Bonnie and the impressive group performer and proven producer New Year’s Punch.

Their dam, Spalding Miss also produced several good winners from a June 2011 litter by Surf Lorian, then had just the two named from her April 2012 litter by Bekim Bale, Arengo (18-2-2-2) and Golden Hour, who did not race.

Khumbu raced 75 times for 10 wins and 30 placings, winning five times over 515m at Sandown (29.77) and three times over 525m at The Meadows (30.15), with single wins over 440m at Sale (25.28) and 425m at Bendigo (24.00).

She has produced some good winners from her first litter, whelped in March 2013 by Hutmaker, which included, Annie Oatmeal, Xray Cray, Danger Money, Kantega, Makatu and Track Runner, then she whelped a litter of three dogs and six bitches, by Velocette in April 2014.

Hear the drum, Fernando

RECENTLY retired, multiple Group 1 winner and stakes earning millionaire, Fernando Bale (March 2013 Kelsos Fusileer* x Chloe Allen) has a lovely litter of 11 pups on the list this week that should generate plenty of interest.

The five dogs and six bitches, registered by High Energy Syndicate manager, Olivia Alcock, are from the beautifully bred bitch, Elegant Elle (March 2012 Bekim Bale x Pure Elle) whose dam is by Pure Octane x Ikari Lee (Brett Lee x Grigorieva) and it is worth recalling, Grigorieva is by Awesome Assassin (Light Of Fire x Tranquil Flame) x Who’s Who (Balligari* x Golden Fox) so the star studded pedigree of these pups goes on forever.

Elegant Elle is from a litter which included, Lochinvar Cobra, Lochinvar Mondo, Lochinvar Rossi, My Jack Rabbit and Pure Bekim, with their dam, Pure Elle, producing some outstanding winners from her three other litters, whelped in December 2009 by Bombastic Shiraz, January 2011 by Bit Chili and April 2013 by Fabregas).

Elegant Elle raced 40 times for five wins and 12 placings, winning twice over 520m at Cranbourne (30.24), twice over 520m at Sale (30.03) with one win over 460m at Warragul (26.18) and worth noting she was placed over 515m at Sandown.

With six bitches in the litter there should be plenty of interest from prospective buyers with future breeding in mind, especially given the pedigree of Audacious Elle, combined with the US cross to Kelso’s Fusileer, and the outstanding record of Chloe Allen (September 2007 Primo Uno x Rosemary Bale) as a brood bitch.

Arthur’s Dream

HEATHMONT breeder Arthur Garratt has a nice litter of eight pups on the list this week by the 2004 Melbourne Cup winner, Hallucinate (April 2002 Brett Lee x Elusive Rebel).

The three dogs and five bitches are from the very well bred bitch, Vee Dream (August 2008 Vee Man Vane x Cooladream) whose dam is by Big Daddy Cool x American Dream (Galilee* x Perfect Match).

Vee Dream is from a handy litter which included Flash Drive, Son Of Vee, Vadream, Vee Best Vane, Vee Eye Pee, Vee Man’s Dream, Vee Man’s Girl and Vee’s Gift, with their dam’s only other litter on file, three named from a December 2007 whelping, by Pure Octane.

On the track Vee Dream raced 12 times for one win and three placings, winning over 400m at Warragul (23.12) where she was also placed, with additional placings over 450m at Shepparton and 390m at Warrnambool.

According to my breeding records she has two previous litters on file, four dogs and three bitches, whelped in April 2013 by Fabregas, then just the one bitch pup, whelped in November 2014 by Knocka Norris.

Worth noting that the six named from the Fabregas litter have all won races, Hard Wicket, Hell On Wheels, Hydra, Logic Lad, Moyarra Okuibi and Moyarra Operani, which should add further to the interest in this litter.

Future breeder’s delight

OUR next litter should have prospective buyers with future breeding in mind reaching for the phone, with 12 pups in the litter by successful US bred sire Kinloch Brae* (August 2005 Craigie Mo Town x Greys Free Style).

Registered by Lang Lang breeder, Geraldine Debono, the two dogs and 10 bitches are from the very well bred bitch, Risk Of Damage (November 2010 Path To Power x Above The Sky) whose dam is by Primo Uno x Above The Clouds (Head Honcho x Highly Blessed).
Risk Of Damage is from her dam’s only litter, which included Bad Advice, Big Sub Woofer, Bolt Me Down, Champagne Dream, Holy Track, Mick Mow and Plea For Beer.

On the track she raced 42 times for 11 wins and 14 placings, winning four times over 400m at Warragul (22.67) where she also won twice over 460m (26.04), twice over 311m at Cranbourne (18.01) with single wins over 440m at Sale, 460m at Geelong (25.86) and 515m at Sandown (29.91).

Nine for the Voice

OUR final litter for review this week is nine pups by the 2011 Golden Easter Egg and three time group winner, Radley Bale (February 2008 Big Daddy Cool x Minkara Bale) whose dam is by Rage Of Fury x Basco Bale (Malawi’s Prince x Burgundy Bale).

Registered by Brookfield breeder Jeff Galea, the six dogs and three bitches in the litter are from the well bred bitch, Karise’s Voice (April 2011 Where’s Pedro x Sisco Train) whose dam is by Primo Uno x Full Streak (Band Of Stars x Frightful Streak).

Karise’s Voice is from a litter which included, Always Whistling, Celtic Colleen, Lennon’s Lassie, New Gold Dream, Sisco Dance, Sisco Dream and Sisco Legend, with their dam also producing winners from each of her three other litters, whelped in January 2009 by Superman, December 2009 by Bo Frazier and December 2012, again by Superman.

Her January 2009 litter was outstanding, producing, Kilty Lad, Sisco Diamond, Sisco Hero, Sookie, Super Payment, Super Rico, Super Train, Train On and Tan Man, who all won races except Tan Man who only raced once, with three from the litter, Kilty Lad, Sisco Diamond and Super Payment each winning more than 20 races from the litter’s total of approximately 120 races.

Karise’s Voice raced 51 times for six wins and 10 placings, winning twice over 515m at Sandown (30.09, 29.72), with single wins over 525m at The Meadows (30.34), 520m at Cranbourne (30.53), 570m at Horsham (33.05) and 545m at Ballarat (31.52).

She has one previous litter on file, three dogs and four bitches, whelped in February 2015 by the US sire Kelso’s Fusileer, who should reach the tracks towards the end of this year.

Radley Bale is from a litter of 12, with only two making any real impression on the track but his record was outstanding, with 102 starts for 37 wins and 27 placings, which earned stakes of $570,883.

He won the 2011 Group 1 Golden Easter Egg (29.67), 2012 Group 2 Launceston Cup, 2012 Group 1 Temlee and finished second in the Group 1 Adelaide Cup, second in the Group 1 Topgun, third in the Group 1 Brisbane Cup, second in the Group 2 Sandown Shootout, and third on the Warragul and Traralgon Cups.

Perhaps a little surprising that he is now eight years old and has only 88 named offspring on file, with his top ranked offspring according to greyhound-data.com being Dzeko (x Rematch), Ultima Bale (x Shaiane Bale), Shanlyn Lucy (x Shanlyn Rosey), Eliza Blanche (x Jackpot Return), Quarrel Bale (x Shaiane Bale), Quaker Bale (x Bitten), Mister To Us (x Miss Brook), My Boy Brodie (x Giggling), Stella Nights (x Rematch) and Shanlyn Patch (x Shanlyn Rosey).

Sire Profile – Fabregas

BEAUTIFULLY bred sire Fabregas (October 2010 Bombastic Shiraz x Wicked Witch) whose dam is by the UK sire Larkhill Jo* x Witch Magic (Awesome Assassin x Star Witch) is well on track to emulate the deeds of his sire, Bombastic Shiraz, who was five times Premier Victorian Metropolitan sire.

Fabregas had “Potential top sire” stamped on his record card after he has won his first three or four starts, and retired after winning the 2012 National Sprint Championship final, which took his record to 12 wins from 13 starts, with stakes earnings of $131.055.

He is from a very goodl litter which included, Magic Potion, Ostentatious and Wicked Shiraz, with their dam, Wicked Witch producing good winners from her other litters, by Bartrim Bale, Dyna Lachlan, Hallucinate and Meticulous and she also has two named from her latest litter, whelped in December 2013 by Turanza Bale.

Fabregas won eight times over 515m at Sandown with a 29.33 PB, and four sub 29.50 times, twice over 450m at Shepparton (25.41) and also won over 460m at Warragul (25.78) and 461m at Hobart (25.85) in the National Sprint final.

Retired to stud at just two years of age, he now has just short of 700 named offspring, with his top 20 rated by greyhound-data.com being, No Donuts (x Chevy Princess), Black Frenzy (x Rose Baby), Big Ticket (x Bella Portrait), Aston Bolero (x Aston Dream), Zipping Midge (x Zipping Jewel), Fabulous Storm (x Whirly Storm), Susannah Cargo (x Lady Cargo), Comancho (x Us Five), Dubai (x Pure Elle), Are Jip (x Monique’s Doll), Aeroplane Ritzy (x Ritza Night), Opus Forte (x Florinda Belle), Tiggerlong Await (x Tiggerlong Petal), Harf Bargain (x Natural Sapphire), Davey ( xMacey), Fabregal (x Allinga Aye Jay), Urban Cargo (x Lady Cargo), Handsome Devil (x Pretty Spiffy), Bigbad Fifi (x Nifty Anna) and Chevy Prince (x Chevy Princess), with plenty of new individual winners popping up for him every week.

Bombastic Shiraz was Premier Victorian Metropolitan sire in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013, joining the great Temlee as a five time winner, behind Head Honcho who topped the list six times and all time record holder, Chariot Supreme who topped the list for seven consecutive years, from 1987 to 1993.

Easter Egg breeding

Kinloch braeLOOKING through the breeding of the finalists of last Saturday night’s $250,000 to the winner Golden Easter Egg, the standout highlight was the three runners for the successful US born, Irish based sire, Kinloch Brae (August 2005 Craigie Mo Town x Greys Free Style) including the $2.50 favourite Moreira (x Donna Ricca).

Breeding of the Easter Egg finalists:

1. Moreira, September 2013, (Kinloch Brae* x Donna Ricca)
2. Brad Hill Billy, January 2013, (Kinloch Brae* x Break Even)
3. Rare Pearl, May 2014, (Bekim Bale x La Pearl)
4. Dawkins Bale, February 2013, (Turanza Bale x Bala Bale)
5. Knight Sprite, February 2013, (Magic Sprite x Kaydo’s Neglect)
6. Asa Killa Queen, January 2014, (Kinloch Brae* x Cawbourne Shine)
7. Blue Revolver, February 2013, (Swift Fancy x Inflated Ego)
8. Mitcharlie Mia, April 2015, (Don’t Knocka Him x Proper Lucy)
Reserves
9. Black Bear Lee, May 2013 (Brett Lee x Paua Of Love)
10. Marley Bale, November 2013 (Turanza Bale x Dyna Gala)

Mitcharlie Mia was trying to emulate the feat of her sire Don’t Knocka Him who won the race in 2012, and Dawkins Bale was trying to go one better than 2015 when he finished second behind his recently retired “millionaire” kennel mate, Fernando Bale.
Fernando Bale came from box eight when he won in 2015, with Dawkins Bale coming from box one, but worth recalling trainer, Andrea Dailly, did win the race in 2013 with Grigorieva Bale who started from box four.
