Talking breeding: Kinloch Brae kicking goals from Ireland

THIS week's review of litters selected from the NSW Whelping Report for the week ending October 18, 2015 starts with a nice litter of six pups registered by Londonderry breeder, Harry Sarkis, by the US born, international stud success Kinloch Brae* August 2005 (Craigie Mo Town x Greys Free Style) who now stands at stud in Ireland.

Harry's litter consists of two dogs and four bitches, from the well bred, 2011 Super Stayers winner, Melkate (December 2008 Late Late Show* x Kowem Girl) whose dam is by Brett Lee x Betazoid (Star Title x Dixie's Jewel).

Melkate is from a litter which included Broadway Hit, Electric Bullet, Flying Ash, Good As Done, Jordy Express and Optimus, with their dam, Kowem Girl having winners on file from each of her three other litters, whelped in April 2010 by Bit Chili, August 2012 by Mogambo and her own May 2013 litter by Kinloch Brae* which included Don't Tell Fil, Entreaty, Nesta No Cry, Parsley Boy, Sudden Outburst and Thank You.

On the track, Melkate raced 52 times for 10 wins and 12 placings, winning six times over 720m at Wentworth Park (42.22), and twice over 520m at Bathurst (30.06) where she also won twice over 618m (36.16).

She has three previous litters on file, one dog and two bitches whelped in February 2013 by Fabregas, which includes recent city winner, To A Tee, one bitch whelped in January 2014 by Radzdazl Jayfkay* and three dogs and two bitches whelped in November 2014 by Swift Fancy.

Spring Gun litter

NSW whelping report 4/3/2016NEXT we have a litter of seven pups by Spring Gun (June 2009 Bombastic Shiraz x Ready For Rain) registered by Greg Board, from Orange.

The four dogs and three bitches are from the beautifully bred bitch, Dyna Daina (April 2011 Cosmic Rumble x Serene Bale) whose dam is by Go Wild Teddy x Siandra Bale (Shining Chariot x Luana Bale).

Dyna Daina was bred by Paul Wheeler and it is worth remembering her great grand dam, Luana Bale, is by the successful imported sire Grove Whisper* x Red Fire Bale (World Acclaim x Marcia Bale).

She is from a litter which included Dyna Chante, Dyna Erwin, Dyna Garth, Dyna Gemma, Dyna Hakon, Dyna Ishaan and Dyna Keaton, with their dam, Serene Bale, also producing winners from her three other litters, whelped in March 2008 by Ahane Lad*, July 2009 by Bartrim Bale and November 2011 by Lonesome Cry.

On the track she did all of her racing in South Australia, where she raced 69 times for 15 wins and 23 placings, winning 11 races at Angle Park, two over 515m (30.17), six over 600m (35.00) and three over 731m (43.65), with four wins at Gawler, two over 531m (31.26) and two over 643m (37.73).

Certainly plenty to like about her pedigree and her dam's good record as a producer, but I also like her strong record on the track over 600m and 731m at Angle Park.

Reach for the Sky*

TWO litters on the list this week by the beautifully bred, 2011 English Derby winner Taylors Sky* (March 2009 Westmead Hawk x Rising Angel) who is making a name for himself here as a sire from limited opportunities to date.

Next week

NEXT week, we will have the Metropolitan Sires lists for both NSW and Victoria for the two months to the end of February, along with our normal review of litters from both states.

I have been asked why I never feature litters bred in Queensland, South Australia, West Australia or Tasmania, and the answer is simple, we don't get the information from the controlling bodies in the other states as litters are registered like we do from GRNSW and GRV.

If breeders in any of the other states want to email me details of their litters as they are whelped, or as they register them then they will be considered for publication.

Letters and questions: [email protected] or snail mail to: PO Box 184 Grantville, Vic 3984
