HIGH Treason ( x Cheetah Zorro Jan '15) will be aimed at the heats of the Cup (515m) on February 5 after recording a dominant victory in the Group 3 Devonport Cup (452m) last Tuesday.

Prepared by respected conditioner Ted Medhurst, High Treason took on a quality field including dual 1 winner ( x Dalta Bale Jun '14), but benefited from the home-track experience when leading throughout in a fast 25.52.

Invictus Rapid (Cosmic Rumble x Miss Fiesty Feb '14) stuck on well for second, seven and a half lengths off the winner, whilst champion Rock Up Top (Spud Regis x Proven Wag May '15) rounded out the trifecta back in third.

Medhurst was elated with the win, the first group success for High Treason.

“It was great that he got a decent win because he deserved it,” Medhurst told Australian Racing Greyhound.

“He has been a very consistent dog – he made the Thousand final and now he has won a so he has done very well for himself.

“To win it he had to begin well – luckily he couldn't have come out any quicker than he did. He certainly chose the right day to do everything perfect.”

High Treason, which is owned by the Dulverton Syndicate, has now won 23 races from 58 starts with 15 placings.

Tuesday's win took his earnings beyond $67,000 – but Medhurst said the most rewarding part of the win had nothing to do with the money.

“I am just so proud of him and so happy for his owners,” he explained.

“I have known them for years and a lot of them are fellas with a bit of age on them, but the enjoyment they have got out of racing this dog is wonderful.

“To see them at the track on Tuesday after the win was the best part of it all.

“They all got a photo with the trophy after the race and then Debbie [Cannan] got him out of the trailer just before we left and he got a million pats.

“The dog's tail was going a million miles an hour – he got plenty of kisses of the fella's wives – I don't think he has been so spoilt in his life!”

Medhurst says he will now aim High Treason at the heats and says he hasn't ruled out an interstate campaign after that series if his star performer measures up.
