Launceston owner-trainer Peter Dalton wanted to draw an inside box with Willy Wag Tail (Cosmic Rumble – Ricky’s Angel) when that chaser contests Monday night’s $7,440 Rapidvite Tasmanian Derby Final (515 metres) and his wish has been granted.
A convincing heat winner, Willy Wag Tail will run from the check box and Dalton gives him a great winning chance, with the outstanding Buckle Up Wes (Collision – Everlong Bale), the obvious danger.
“Willy Wag Tail is very fast, but sometimes is found wanting at the business end,” he explained.
“He was racing first up following a brief spell on Monday night and will probably be improved by the outing, so I am keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best, however Buckle Up Wes will take plenty of beating.”
Willy Wag Tail prevailed in one of two Derby heats conducted on Monday night by recording a time of 29.97, whereas Buckle Up Wes, which has drawn the blue box in the final, recorded a winning time of 29.79.
Dalton bred Willy Wag Tail, the winner of nine races, the particular litter having also produced the good winners Rumbling Rick and Tic Tac Thomas.
Elite State bitch Ricky’s Angel, owned by Ricky Ponting, being best known as the dam of Rewind, with 58 victories to date, the most prolific winner to have graced the arena in the history of the sport in Tasmania.
Dalton is no stranger to big race success, having won the 2009 Breeders Classic conducted in Hobart with the smart chaser Glenrea Whisper (Bond – Kylies Choice).
Meanwhile the speedy bitch Bell Oh Moss (Kiowa Sweet Trey – Marananga Moss) has drawn the red box in Monday Night’s $7,440 Jet Pets Animal Transport Tasmanian Oaks Final (515 metres) and has to be rated a chance of winning the prestigious event, despite the fact that the brilliant She’s All Class (Dyna Lachlan – It’s A She) also qualified.
The Rodney Walker prepared Bell Oh Moss made it through by winning her heat in the time of 29.80, however the David Crosswell prepared She’s All Class, which has drawn black box on Monday night, bettered that time by winning in a scintillating 29.72.
These two rate as two of the most promising bitches to have raced in Tasmania in recent times and the race should prove to be an outstanding spectacle.
The Bagdad based Walker enjoyed a successful night at the LGRC meeting, winning also with Terror Time (Collision – Shepherd’s Girl) and Moonshine Moss (Kiowa Sweet Trey – Marananga Moss).
Smart bitch Terror Time led throughout to take out the thetote.com.au Distance Championship (720 metres), as a heavily supported $3.40 commodity.
She recorded a time of 43.00 in defeating the Allan Anderson prepared Lashing Jill ( Lilli Pilli Lad – Illusion) and the Brendan Pursell prepared Cheetah Zorro (Bombastic Shiraz – Fallen Zorro), in a blanket finish.
Moonshine Moss prevailed in the Tote Racing Centre Grade 5 (515 metres), scoring by three lengths in the time of 30.45 and paying a win dividend of $3.60.
