Real Lady Is Far From Shy On The Track
She may be one of the smallest dog's racing in Victoria, but she is certainly all heart and ready to break through at the Thursday twilight meeting at Ballarat.
Real Lady is her name, and whilst she only weighs 21.8 kilo's, she is certainly willing and able to take on all comers in the Ashdrive Asphalting Maiden Final over 450 metres.
Real Lady has been racing consistently, even though each time she ventures onto the track it seems to her trainer Del Vigor that “she just can't keep out of trouble.”
The daughter of Big Daddy Cool has run eight minor placing's from her fifteen race starts, and Vigor said that “it's just a matter of time before she breaks through.”
“She is generally quick out of the boxes, so her box six draw is not a concern.” Vigor said.
“Hopefully she can stay out of trouble. If she can she should be a good each way chance.” she said.
Owner Benny Briffa named his chaser Real Lady as she is a very pretty dog to look at.
But that is where it stops, as Vigor describes her as “the boss of the kennel, even though she is so small. Then when she get's onto the track she just goes the way she wants to and doesn't get bothered by the bigger dog's.”
In another character trait Real Lady will not go to trials, or the racetrack without her travelling companion, a retired greyhound called “Dave.”
No doubt Dave will be close by when Real lady races today.
Other chances in an open race will be the Peter Hunt trained Darius Bale, and the Wayne Wrout trained Obama Beauty.
Darius Bale was a super run on debut last week when he produced an all the way win in the very good time of 25.35 seconds for the 450 metres.
He exited Box 3 last week and should not be troubled by his Box 4 draw in the final.
Obama Beauty chased home Darius Bale last week, but received checks in running which made her effort all the more meritorious.
Obama Beauty has drawn the coveted Box 1 draw for the final, and if she is able to get a clear run she should be right in the finish of the race.
Vigor's entry into greyhound racing was easy as her parents Ian and Elaine are also long standing and successful trainers.
She credits all of her knowledge of greyhound racing to them.
Vigor not only trains greyhounds in her own right, but also runs a greyhound establishment in Lara where she breaks in and pre trains dog's for other owners and trainers.
But it will be all focus on Real Lady. Her shadow Dave who will no doubt be barking all the way home if she is able to salute the judge and break her maiden status in the final.
