Cheetah Zorro Hangs On To Win The Bold Trease

Cheetah Zorro has clung on to take out the One 2013 Solo at . The daughter of and led all the way to defeat her kennel mate Lucy Wires by a head in the time of 42.25, landing Robbie Britton a quinella in the process. Veteran Destini Fireball was a head away in third in a classic blanket finish that saw the first five dogs finish under a length apart.

Cheetah Zorro's victory sees her follow in the footsteps of her mother who won the race in 2008 and was crowned the in the same year.

Starting smartly from box three, Cheetah Zorro carved out a smart first section of 6.12 and opened up a two length lead on Destini Fireball (Box 1) and Hurricane Isaac (Box 4) as they passed the post the first time.

Coming off the back, Cheetah Zorro had maintained her ascendency but the challengers were starting to make their runs. Freddy's Smile (Box 7) crept up on the fence while Lucy Wires (Box 2) was unleashing a withering burst from well back.

Lucy Wires ran into a dead end and copped further interference on the top of the home turn. Freddy's Smile slipped through on the inside and looked to have headed Cheetah Zorro. But Robbie Brittons 29 kilogram bitch kept on fighting and staved off all challengers in a thrilling end to the event. Despite having no luck Lucy Wires came again and was the hard luck story of the race.

An elated Robbie Britton was particularly thrilled with the win saying “To win any elite race is great but I love stayers and to win a staying race gives me a real kick.”
