Fedex Delivers Yet Again For Thompson In Dawson Heats

Three time winner Fedex headlines a stellar field for the final of the $58,000 Group 3 Dawson after registering a sensational win in his heat at Park tonight.

Sent to the boxes a $2 favourite following his last-start Memorial win, Fedex sprung from box 2 to lead all the way heat one in a slick 29.48. The underrated brindle sprinter defeated Atomic Voodoo ($8.10) by 4.75 lengths, and a win in next week's final will take his stakes beyond $300,000.

Flash Of Light ($2.40F) was equally impressive when she also lead all the way to defeat Group 2 winner Cosmic Chief by 4.25 lengths in 29.53.

Flash Of Light was a close up second behind in the 2009 Crown Classic, and her chances of going one better in this $40,000 feature improved when she drew the cherished box 1 for the final.

Master trainer two finalists when Iso Octane and Nova Surf won their respective heats.

Iso Octane ($4.10), which recently set an unofficial track record of 29.29 at the Lightwood Road circuit, stopped the clock in an impressive 29.54, finishing 9.25 lengths clear of outsider Lakeland Bale ($23.70).

Nova Surf ($2F) had her first start at Sandown Park since finding trouble when finishing third in the 2009 Group 1 Hawkins Laurels. Drawn perfectly in box 1, Nova Surf showed all her class to hold off the fast finishing Nelly Bale in 29.72.

Nelly Bale was a reserve for the recent Group 1 Radio Sport 927 over 725m, but the 83 start veteran showed she still had plenty of pace over the sprint distance to reach her first group final. However her chances of a maiden Group race success took a hit after drawing box eight for the final, a box she has yet to win from in 12 career starts.

The final of the $58,000 Group 3 Dawson will be run at Sandown Park on Thursday 3 June.
