Just 19 hours after adding another trophy to the mantelpiece, the sixth for the year, when Got A Moment claimed the , trainer was rugging up runners at Bendigo and while no race titles were on offer, his smart sprinter Silver Spider claimed the 500m track record to continue Thompson's remarkable run of success in 2012.

At the highest level Thompson has prepared the winner of the , Melbourne and Brisbane Cups, Sapphire Classic, Vic Peters Classic and Silver Chief in 2012 as well as black type events the , Classic and in what can only be described as a remarkable year.

At Lord's Raceway, since the new track opened in March, Thompson claimed the two biggest races on the Bendigo calendar in the Cup and the Gold Rush Maiden and Silver Spider is the second greyhound from the Pearcedale kennel to lay claim to the fastest run over the 500m journey at Bendigo after Aston Carmelita was the first greyhound to break 28 seconds back in May.

Silver Spider's record run of 27.76 sliced 0.05 off Majestic Lee's track record and takes his record to ten wins from just 26 starts with seven minor placings.

The son of Vapour Whirl and Silver Shiraz has clocked slick times throughout his career including 26.31 at , 22.58 at Warragul, 29.56 and 23.74 Bendigo, which was 0.10 slower than the 425m time recorded by previous 500m record holder Majestic Lee.

Interestingly both Majestic Lee and Silver Spider have won once at The Meadows both clocking the same time of 30.18.
