GOTBA President Bill Salter Added To GRV Board

Deputy Premier and Racing Minister today announced the appointment of well-known greyhound industry representative Bill Salter to the board of Greyhound (GRV).

Mr Hulls said the self-made businessman and devoted greyhound industry operator would add significant racing experience and business nous to further strengthen the GRV Board.

“Mr Salter's 37 years of experience in the greyhound industry as a highly respected and successful trainer will provide the board with invaluable insight into racing,” Mr Hulls said.

“Added to this is Mr Salter's business acumen, which he and honed through his family party hire business of which he is now owner, director and manager.

“Though his career as a trainer has been broad in its experience and success, Mr Salter is perhaps most renowned for the 1987 when he trained Regal Post to glory.”

Mr Salter's standing in the industry and broader community is evident through his various posts including President of the Greyhound Owners Trainers and Breeders Association.

Mr Salter has held that post since he was elected in 2001, but is also on various other committees and boards in the industry.

GRV is a statutory body established under the Racing Act 1958 and has responsibility for the regulation, management and promotion of greyhound racing in Victoria.

Mr Salter's appointment will fill the board vacancy created by Gloria Gilmore whose term expired in July.

Mr Hulls paid tribute to Ms Gilmore for her service to GRV as a board member since 2000.

“I would like to thank Ms Gilmore and acknowledge the hard work, enthusiasm and expertise she brought to the GRV board through her loyal service,” Mr Hulls said.

“Her contribution to Victorian greyhound racing helped establish the sport as a great success and I wish her well in her future endeavours.”
