Major Mission’s Warragul St Leger
Rising star Major Mission completed an $8000 special assignment at Warragul on Tuesday night. Major Mission – a son of former sprinting star Bond, who holds the Sandown Park 515-metre track record of 29.38sec – had a licence to thrill in the Topcat Video St. Leger final (424m).
Trainer Tony Attard of Altona Green and owner Robert Smith of Altona Meadows would have been entitled to celebrate with vodka martinis (shaken, not stirred) after Major Mission accounted for some of the state's up-and-coming speedsters in the restricted age feature for males.
Major Mission ($11.10) brandished a metaphorical 7.65mm Walther PPK pistol defeating Wanalta Chief ($5.80) by seven and a half lengths, with Barney ($10.60) two lengths away third in 23.97sec.
Then followed: Go Wild Doc ($18.20), Where's Rufus ($3.40F), Bowler Ben ($6.60), Freelander ($20.80) and Young Ravello ($3.60).
Bond (who stands at stud in New South Wales) is also the sire of Hybrid Theory, who won the Warragul Oaks, a restricted age feature for females, on September 16. In late June, Hybrid Theory also won the Group 1 Laurels Classic at Sandown Park.
