Rewind Stamps His Claim For 2011 Melbourne Cup

's speedster Rewind continued his outstanding recent form, recording the fastest win in the third Solo Prelude series at Park tonight.

Miss Roman Nose set a new first split record of 4.93 seconds, however Rewind soon found the lead rounding the first turn. In the run to the line, David Bale closed to within a length of Rewind however the white and black speedster held on to win in Best Of Night 29.34 seconds.

Trained by three time Solo Melbourne Cup winner Darren McDonald, it was Rewind's fifth win in his last seven starts and 25th win in 37 career starts. He run at least third in each of his last 12 starts dating back to July.

Zero's Hero also overcame the awkward box 5, jumping brilliantly to lead all the way to win the night's second Prelude by 1.75 lengths in a slick 29.43 seconds.

Owned, trained and bred by Pearcedale mentor Kay King, Zero's Hero caused the upset of the night in returning $24.20 for the win.

Northern raider Fancy Dean proved too good for his local rivals, winning the night's third Prelude in 29.58 seconds. Part owned by Socceroos star Tim Cahill, it was Fancy Dean's first start outside his home state of New South Wales, and will now return in three weeks time for a crack at Victoria's biggest greyhound prize. Former holder Heston Bale flashed home late to run second just three-quarters of a length behind the Sydneysider.

Come On Luann scored the night's most impressive Prelude win, coming from midfield to fly down the middle of the track and also score a three-quarter length win in 29.46 seconds.

Trained in Maryborough by , the lightly raced sprinter slashed a little over a length off her best time at Sandown Park, defeating favourite No Justice and the tiring Dyna Bert.

The winner of each Solo Melbourne Cup Prelude has booked its berth in the heats of Australia's most sought after greyhound race, the 1 Solo Melbourne Cup. The heats of the Solo Melbourne Cup will be run on Thursday 10 November, with the $200,000 to-the-winner final to be run the following week on Thursday 17 November.

The final Solo Melbourne Cup Prelude series will be run on Shootout night, Thursday 3 November. The Macro Meats Shootout, showcasing Australia's four fastest greyhounds, is a $40,000 winner-takes-all, four dog speed extravaganza.

Shootout night is family night, with kids getting the opportunity to be an ‘owner for the day' and meet ‘their' greyhounds, as well as a host free kids activities including face painting, animal farms, kids races, lots of giveaways and the chance to meet big man Tyronne Vickery.

Entry is free and gates open at 6.00pm.
