Thompson Trifecta As Black Magic Opal Wins 2014 Warrnambool Cup

added the Two Cup to his impressive list of wins with an imperious victory in the 2014 final on Wednesday night.

made the race a whitewash for his Pearcedale kennel landing the trifecta after Innocent Til finished second and Ronan Izmir hung on for third.

Beginning fast from box five, the son of and ( – Opal Glow) matched motors early with his kennelmate Ronan Izmir (1). It didn't take long for the 2013 winner to gain the upper hand and shoot away.

Deadly Vane (6) emerged quickly into second and looked as though he may be the main threat, but he had difficulty getting away from Ronan Izmir and that is all that Black Magic Opal needed to turn the event into a galloping exhibition. The 32kg black dog careered away to score by 5 1/2 lengths in a slick 24.96.

Innocent Til (2) found a path along the fence to finish strongly and grab second place, while Ronan Izmir staved off the fast finishing (7) and Deadly Vane to hang on to third.

The win was Black Magic Opal's 36th from just 48 starts and takes his career earnings beyond $580,000.
