Timberland A Huge Chance In Ballarat VBIS Final
Trained by Daryl Brennan, the exciting son of Elite State has certainly not let his trainer down by qualifying for the final to be run over 450 metres.
Brennan said that he had earmarked Timberland for the $6,000 to the winner Maiden Series some time ago when he saw what he could do on the track.
“He has always run fast times, even at his first track trial.” Brennan said of his young chaser.
Timberland was bred by Brennan and his brother Colin, and showed his potential on debut when he won his heat by an imposing four lengths.
In last weeks semi final Timberland burst out of the boxes to record the fastest first split of the night, only to be run down in the shadows of the post.
“His race time improved again last week, but he's still young and learning so I think there is plenty of improvement left in him”
Timberland has drawn a suitable Box 3 for his assault on the final.
“He is a mad railer so we are happy with his inside box draw.”
The series has already unearthed some exciting youngsters, and the final is sure to be a hotly contested affair.
“It's a very strong field, but if he can get out in front he will certainly give them something to chase in the final.”
Brennan believes Silent Guardian and Rusty Spike will be the ones for his chaser to overcome in the final.
Silent Guardian from the Darren McDonald kennel made it two wins from two starts when he blitzed his rivals last week recording another “best of the night” run.
Silent Guardian has also shown exceptional speed out of the boxes, and his Box 8 draw should suit him.
The David Burnett trained Rusty Spike has shown considerable improvement throughout the series.
In the heats he chased home Silent Guardian, and then overran Timberland in his excellent semi final victory last week. Rusty Spike has drawn outside of Timberland in Box 4 in the final.
