RWWA Seeka Dream Inquiry Finalised
The Stewards heard evidence at an initial inquiry on the 27th October 2008, which was adjourned and resumed on the 11th November 2008.
Evidence was taken from Trainer Mr J. Millsteed, Mr C. Russo Manager Racing Chemistry Centre and Dr. Peter Symons, RWWA Industry Veterinarian.
Over the course of the two inquiries evidence was submitted by RWWA Principal Investigator Mr P. O'Reilly, in relation to possible meat contamination.
Analysis by the Racing Chemistry Laboratory of meat samples taken from Trainer Millsteed's kennels, indicated the presence of flunixin in the meat samples consistent with contamination.
The provider of the meat was also questioned.
Trainer Mr J. Millsteed was found guilty under Greyhound Racing Rule 83 (2)(a) for presenting SEEKA DREAM for Qualifying Trial 2 at Mandurah Greyhounds on the 11 September 2008 not free of the drug flunixin.
In considering penalty the Stewards took into account the following :
- Mr Millsteed's unblemished record.
- The event was a qualifying trial.
- The expert evidence of Dr Symons and Mr Russo.
- The circumstance of the offence in that the Stewards were satisfied that the likely explanation was meat contamination.
Trainer Mr J. Millsteed was fined $1000.
Acting under Greyhound Racing Rule 83 (4) SEEKA DREAM was disqualified from the event and the Stewards amended the placings accordingly.
