2014 Group Two WA Oaks Preview

Saturday night at 8.30pm Perth time the boxes will open and in a matter of seconds the 2014 Group 2 Cannington Oaks winner will be named. The field is congregated with talented bitches from around Australia, with Jeff Britton the dominating trainer with three representatives and a reserve in Oakvale Destiny (box one), Mepunga Hayley (box four), Mepunga Moss (box eight) and Oakvale Flyer (box ten).

Last year Graeme Bate took out the $40,000 to the winner final with his bitch Quiz Bale in a time of 30.49. Jeff Britton heads into the race with $3.80 favourite Oakvale Destiny, for his first win in this Group 2 feature. Steve Withers’ chaser Free Candy holds the most hope for a WA bitch to claim the title, paying $4.00 and jumping from box two.

Below are the fixed odds at Sportingbet and comments for each runner. Be sure to take advantage of the $700 Free Bet being offered.

1 – Oakvale Destiny – Jeff Britton (Trainer) – “She is a slow beginner that has had plenty of outside boxes in the past. I’m hoping this week she can come out better from the inside draw.” Sportingbet odds $1.80.

2 – Free Candy – Steve Withers (Trainer) – “She is the strongest dog in the field from the 600 metre boxes. If she can comes close to leading the race early she is in with a good chance, she is definitely in the top half of the bitches.” Sportingbet odds $5.00.

3 – Angel’s Chorus – Linda Britton (Trainer) – “I am so happy for her to be in this race, she has exceeded expectations so far. Its a big step up from the dogs she has been running against so i will be happy if she runs a good race.” Sportingbet odds $31.00.

4 – Mepunga Hayley – Jeff Britton (Trainer) – “If she leads or shows any signs of her Sandown form I don’t think she will get run down. She hasn’t got a lot of pace around her either so that should work in her favour.” Sportingbet odds $5.00.

5 – Chica Destacada – ARG comment – Her run last week saw her chasing a very strong opponent in Mepunga Moss. If she comes out of the boxes better this week she won’t have to do as much work to get to the lead and that could see her take out the Oaks. Sportingbet odds $6.00.

6 – Elyce Rhian – ARG comment – Last week she came out of the boxes and showed explosive speed to lead the field but tired as the finish line loomed. This week is another step up in class and won’t be much easier, box six will make it that bit harder for her too. Sportingbet odds $31.00.

7 – Liara Allen – Tammy Collins (Kennel Representative) – “The outside box will make it hard for her this week. Her win last week was great and was made easier by box one.” Sportingbet odds $10.00.

8 – Mepunga Moss – Jeff Britton (Trainer) – “She is a good beginner and can cross the field early from box eight. If she leads, she will be relying on trouble behind her because she isn’t strong.” Sportingbet odds $7.50.
