THE Group 1 Galaxy final promises to be an exciting affair, with Space Star the clear favourite to take home his first group 1 victory. He has twice been the bridesmaid, firstly behind Sweet It Is in the Bold Trease and then behind Star Recall in the Sale Cup. One gets the feeling that Saturday will be the night that the stars align for the son of Bekim Bale and Tonto Tears.
The obvious dangers are the Brooke Ennis trained Lady Toy, who is racing sensationally since moving into Ennis' kennels, and local star My Mate Cobber. If he managed to land on the bunny it will take a mighty effort from the chasing brigade to overhaul him.
ARG's Brad Bugeja: “Since joining the Ennis camp she has grown a leg and from the red draw she is a serious contender tonight. Last week she settled in third spot and she then hit the line strongly to score in an impressive 41.84. That was her first look at the track, so with a clear run again I would expect her to go just under the 41.70 mark and the key to her chances tonight is the rails draw. She excels when she can scrape the paint and since joining the Ennis kennel she has been showing a bit more early speed in her races.”
ARG's Brad Bugeja: “Was soundly beaten by Space Star in his heat and would need to find plenty to have any chance, it was his first look at the track last week so I expect he will improve a little but probably not enough to win. He tends to make quite a few mistakes in his races also, so I would just include him in my exotic bets.“
ARG's Brad Bugeja: “Has the speed to settle in the top two and she has been racing very well here of late. Was beaten convincingly by Space Star last week but she was far from disgraced because Space Star found the bunny early in that race. I dont think she can win tonight but if she happens to lead them up she can definitely figure in the placings.”
ARG's Brad Bugeja: “Gave a great sight in his heat last week and it took the strong Lady Toy the entire 715m to reel him in. In his three tries over this journey he has consistently gone sub 15.60 to the winning post the first time and repeat of that will see him set the pace again. With three runs under his belt over the 715m journey, he should now be at peak fitness and he may cause an upset tonight.“
ARG's Brad Bugeja: “Has been racing in great form in recent weeks and he would have derived a lot of benefit from his heat run last week. He is likely to improve on that effort but I dont think he can improve enough to be a factor. He does his best racing when he can settle in the top three early and from this draw I can't see that happening.“
ARG's Brad Bugeja: “Has always given the indication that he was going to be a top line stayer but in recent weeks he has really announced himself as the nation's best stayer. He looks ideally placed in the wide draw and he looked super impressive when posting a blistering 41.57 heat win. He has very little speed drawn around him tonight and that should allow him to get a clear run in the early stages and if he lands in the top three it should be a matter of times and margins.“
ARG's Brad Bugeja: “Has a great record here and has been a top flight stayer in WA for some time now. She looks well placed in the wide draw but I feel that she might get too far back in the early stages and it's hard for her to reel in a field with this sort of depth.“
ARG's Brad Bugeja: “Soundly beaten in her three tries over this journey and would find this task well beyond her, has a solid record over the shorter trips here but just not good enough to be a factor in this.”
ARG's Brad Bugeja: “Highly talented when on song and if he started he could pinch some minor money, three starts back he posted a top placing here and he can show early speed in his races.“
