Miss Bamsy set to continue hot run of form at Mandurah

MISS Bamsy ( x Miss Chicki Nov '14) affirmed her status as one of the most improved young chasers in training when scoring a solid win at last Tuesday over 405m.

Stepping from box one, the black bitch was only second into stride but proved too strong at the finish, defeating Pure Motion ( x Ema's Princess Feb '15) by two and a half lengths in a best of night 22.88.

Trained by Jackie Wilson, it was her fourth win in seven starts since joining Wilson's Forrestdale kennel in June, having been purchased by Gary Nelson with the modest record of one win and eight placings from 17 starts.

Having done her previous racing in NSW and SA there was a big unknown as to whether Miss Bamsy would adjust to racing against some competitive company in the west, however the 32-kilogram bitch has repaid her connection's faith, with her prize money now in excess of $7,500.

Wilson said she is stumped as to why Miss Bamsy has turned her form around, but says she is excited to think about what the future could hold.

“Gary did a bit of research and liked her – she'd been racing ok in NSW running some placings and then she went to SA where she won one but then didn't do too much else,” Wilson told Australian Racing Greyhound.

“Because we are only in the sport for a hobby we don't spend the big money on dogs – she was purchased for $2,000 so she has well and truly earned back what he paid for her.

“I really don't know what I've done differently to get the results out of her. Perhaps she didn't like being in a big kennel – I only have four greyhounds and we are very hands on.

“Other than that I have no idea – we haven't done anything special – we just try to keep them happy and it is showing on the track.”

It has been a big 2017 for Wilson, with additional success with two kennel mates to Miss Bamsy; Jessica Parker ( x Ocean Foam Apr '14) and Double Destiny (Destini Fireball x Sure Destiny Nov '14) which have won 12 and nine races respectively throughout their careers.

Wilson said it is a big thrill to see her kennel flying at the moment.

“It has been a great year – it started off slow but all of a sudden things have sky rocketed and I am now sitting on 19 wins for the year which is pretty exciting because I only have four dogs in work.

“A lot of the credit has to go to Gary – he is a very hands on owner and he helps a lot with the dogs – we both work full time so if one of us can't make it to the track the other will step in and help out.”

Miss Bamsy's next assignment will be at Mandurah on Tuesday night where she has drawn box eight in a fifth grade race over 405m, with her biggest threat appearing to be Cosmic Evolution ( x Allez Bijoux Mar '15) which looks well drawn in box one.

Wilson says Miss Bamsy will have to handle the step up in grade from a novice, but says if her speedster can replicate her 22.59 personal best she will be hard to beat.

“She will need to come out well on Tuesday night because the dog in box seven goes right at the start so she could find a bit of trouble if she doesn't get away quickly,” Wilson explained.

“The times she has won for me she has mostly led or been up there early so it should be a good learning experience for her.

“We will probably step her up sometime in the future, but the 490m start at Mandurah is on a bend so I want to keep her over the 405m at this stage while she is still learning how to race.”

Miss Bamsy will exit box eight in race 10 at Mandurah this Tuesday night, with the race set to jump at 11.12pm AEST.
