OLDMATE Mia (Collide x Miss Mohar May ’13) will be on a plane back to NSW this week after finishing her WA racing career with a win at Mandurah last Thursday.

Owned by the Odd Squad Syndicate, managed by Matt Hosking, the white and black bitch has been trained for the past 12 months by Banjup trainer Pete Brown and was ultra impressive last week – leading all the way off box one to clock a smart 17.34 over the 302m sprint.

Brown went into the race not expecting anything but said he was elated to see her go out a winner.

“She was ideally drawn in box one because she has got early speed, but I wasn’t expecting her to win – the main thing was for her to make it around safe,” Brown told Australian Racing Greyhound.

“To get that last win with her was a bonus for us.”

Oldmate Mia was purchased by Brown and his cricket mates in 2016 and has been a very handy bitch, winning six races for them and 11 from 79 overall with 24 minor placings.

“She started her career in NSW then came to WA where she was being trained by another trainer,” Brown explained.

“He decided she needed a change of scenery and it was great timing – the opportunity came up to purchase her at a cheap price so I bought her for my friends and she has gone on to win about $14,000 for them.”

Oldmate Mia will now return to Dubbo where she will continue racing for her breeder Robert Ingram until she comes on season.

Brown, who has 10 greyhounds in work with his wife Angie, says he will be sad to say goodbye to ‘Mia’ this week – but admits he is looking forward to training some of her pups in the future.

“It may be two years down the track, but the deal is for some of her pups to come back over here when they are ready to race so that will be exciting,” he said.

“She is the ideal kennel dog – she doesn’t bark and she is lovely to have around. I’m going to be very sorry to see her go.

“She is like a part of the family – we love her like she is a pet so I am sure there will be a couple of tears shed when I take her to the airport.”
