Star Recall became the third fastest greyhound to run over Cannington’s 530 metre distance in the Spring Gift Final on Saturday night, stopping the clock at a sizzling 29.85.
The daughter of No Recall – High Earner jumped from box six as the $1.40 favourite for trainer Linda Britton, who also had talented bitch Gone To Heaven (box five) and Deyna (box three) representing her kennel in the final.
Star Recall flew to the early lead, clocking a first sectional time of 5.57 with kennel-mate Deyna, while Thunder Rama crossed to the rails from box eight. Deyna soon found himself outpaced with the likes of You Can Dream, who entered the race as a reserve from box one after the scratching of Jump The Queue, and Gone To Heaven who showed glimpses of early speed.
With Star Recall on the arm, it was an impossible task for Thunder Rama to run her down as she crossed the line seven lengths clear in a super slick time of 29.85. Thunder Rama’s performance was also noteworthy clocking a personal best time of 30.39.
After breaking the magical 30-second barrier for the second week in a row Star Recall became the equal fastest WA bred chaser along side On Coin, who also won the Spring Gift final last year.
In just 34 career starts, Star Recall has won on 19 occasions and placing in 11 others. She has now taken her total prize money to over $155,000 including the $750 Westchase bonus.
