Team Quinsee Turn It Into The Monelli Oaks

Michael and Michelle Quinsee have been long-time participants and supporters to the Western Australian greyhound scene with their ‘Monelli' team of runners, but they may have achieved a new high point as owners on night, after completing the trifecta in the $8000 to-the-winner .

David Hobby trained all three dogs responsible for the rare feat, and would no doubt be receiving plenty of congratulations after displaying just how to have multiple runners ready and firing when it counts the most.

Coming into the race with three finalists (boxes one, two and six) always increases the chance of victory, but to clean sweep the prize pool is something that not many people, including most punters, saw coming on this occasion.

's interstate raider Air would start the $2.30 popular pick from box three. It won at its' first look at the track in 27.43 beating Sharon Monelli on that occasion, but Sharon would quickly turn the tables come final time a week later.

She was clearly best to begin once the lids opened, while Air Collision was afforded no forgiveness for a tardy start, and those dogs directly around her took away any galloping room that was on offer.

Luba Monelli was wearing the red vest, and tried to make life tough for the kennelmate drawn directly on her outside but Sharon Monelli was going too well and crossed to the rail. As those two tussled, Sveta Monelli from the six box was in the clear and making her dash towards the front, giving the Hobby/Quinsee runners the front three positions by the time the field made its way to the top turn.

From the rest of the field, the only runner that looked like spoiling the party was 's bitch Agent Dunham, however it wasn't long until even she couldn't sustain the pace set-up front, and the trifecta was known with quite a distance left to travel.

Sharon Monelli took out the Oaks final, leading all of the way in 27.36 for 490 metres, three lengths over Sveta Monelli and Luba Monelli in third. Agent Dunham was next over the line ahead of former Victorian Heidi Go Seek, and race favourite Air Collision never recovered from the early bother finishing last.

Sharon Monelli is by NSW sire out of Fantasy Monelli bringing up a 13th win from 43 starts to date. It was the least fancied from the three Hobby runners this time out, paying $12.10 for the win, while the trifecta paid a handsome $194.90 for those brave enough to take it.

Both Sveta Monelli and Luba Monelli are from the July 2011 – Foolish Monelli litter, and are bound to meet again considering both should be up in city class in the very near future.

Of course, just to add icing to a very profitable cake was the fact that earlier in the night, another member of the same Mogambo litter, Oleg Monelli, took out a Grade 4 event over the same distance. It gives the Quinsee/Hobby combination a total of $13,030 collected over the four dogs they had entered for the meeting. That's not a bad haul considering there are another four ‘Monelli' dogs entered for the metropolitan class meeting, where a win would land a further $4100, so a very large weekend could be on the horizon.

Such accomplishments are well deserved when they go a team whose contributions and dedication to the industry have been sustained for such a long period, and that can certainly be applied in this case. Congratulations to all involved.
