The last word – Zipping Bella a rough chance in the Galaxy

PROMINENT WA conditioner will be taking on the role of spectator tonight when Zipping Bella lines up in the 1 (715m) at .

Shinners half owns the daughter of and Cho Chang, $17 with Sportsbet, with Brett Mazgaltsidis, with 28-year-old Mazgaltsidis training the brindle bitch under the guidance of his greyhound racing mentor.

“Brett is a young bloke and he is pretty much my right hand man – he has only been in the dogs for around 12 months,” Shinners told Australian Racing Greyhound.

“We bought a dog off and it didn't turn out to be much good so we decided to have another go and we were able to get this little girl.

“She was very timid when she came over so we did a bit of work handling her to get her confidence up around people and we took her up to and started her off up there where she won her maiden very impressively.

“Not long after that she cracked the ulna bone in her leg so she was out for quite a bit of time and when she came back she came on season which meant more time off.

“It may have been a blessing in disguise as she has grown up and matured a bit and since she has come back she has been trialling very well and she has had a good preparation through the middle distances.”

Shinners and Mazgaltsidis didn't waste much time racing Zipping Bella over the sprints upon her return in February, stepping her up to the middle distance trip at her fourth run back.

She went on to win four of her next five starts at Northam, and Cannington, the most recent leading into the Galaxy series being a sizzling 36.63 win over the 647m trip at Mandurah, just over three lengths off the record set by the mighty .

Stepping up to the ‘700' for the first time last week in her heat of the Galaxy, the brindle bitch was able to overcome trouble, finishing strongly to finish three and one quarter lengths second behind Hodor in 42.78.

“It wasn't ideal for her to have her first 700 last week,” Shinners said.

“Unfortunately the meeting was called off the week before – but she acquitted herself really well.

“Dublin Bull wiped her out coming out of the boxes and she was shuffled back to last.

“The way the track is playing out not many dogs have been able to come from way back so for her to finish second was a very impressive run.”

Zipping Bella has drawn box eight in the $80,000 to the winner final, with the current favourite being Seeking Justice (box one) which is currently $1.90 with Sportsbet.

“If she were in the one, two or three I would have given her a really big chance but in saying that she probably isn't too badly drawn because she can come out and the seven has a fair bit of pace and it may give her a nice run into the race.

“If she can possie up three to four lengths off the lead coming into the straight the first time then she should be right in it.”

The Galaxy is race five at Cannington and is set to jump at 10:32pm AEST.
