What you may have missed: GRNSW taking best practice submissions

GREYHOUND RACING NEW SOUTH WALES (GRNSW) are calling for submissions from qualified organisations and/or individuals for a project proposal focusing on identifying the best practice methods in the areas of rearing, socialisation, education and training of greyhounds.

The project has a total budget of $75,000 and will review current methods as well as looking at new ways of training greyhounds, with a focus on alternatives to live baiting.

The submissions are being called for after the NSW Government announced the establishment of a Special Commission of Inquiry into Greyhound Racing on March 4, 2015, in the wake of the recent live-baiting scandal.

GRNSW are now working on rebuilding the reputation of the greyhound racing industry, with the aim of the upcoming project being to develop and support a sustainable and successful industry moving forward.

Paw Licking Most Popular Greyhound for 2014

Kel Greenough’s exciting sprinter Paw Licking was announced as Greyhound Racing Victoria’s most popular greyhound for 2014 last week.

The son of Elite State and Kingsbrae Di won 19% of the votes, with owner Allan Lang receiving a $500 accommodation package as part of the prize.

Paw Licking claimed the Group 2 Maitland Cup and Group 2 Bendigo Cup’s last year and in 2013 shot to fame after winning the Group 1 Hobart Thousand in track-record time. He has since been retired to stud after recording 32 wins from 54 starts during his career, including 14 placings.

Worth A Replay

Space Star continues to produce breath-taking victories and Saturday night’s Group 1 Association Cup was no exception. After sitting in second position for the majority of the race, the Robert Britton-trained chaser grabbed talented stayer Lady Toy on the line, scoring by three quarters of a length in a sizzling time of 42.09. Wentworth Park commentator Tim Newbold produced another brilliant call and can even be heard clapping as the greyhounds crossed the finish line.

Loren’s Chasing Glory

First-time trainer Loren Harborne had plenty of reasons to celebrate on Saturday night, with her talented greyhound Chasing The line winning the first race on Golden Easter Egg final night. Starting at huge odds of $20.40, the son of Cosmic Rumble and Lily Appeal notched up his fourth win at the track, with Loren taking home $8,000 for her efforts. The popular Gardens staff member received high-praise for her achievement post race from her peers at the track and on social media.
