PlayUp is one of the newest brands on the bookmaker scene, having been launched originally in 2009 as Topbetta the bookkmaker brand merged with MadBookie, Draftstars and ClassicBet in 2019. The company was headquartered in Newcastle, NSW; but is now run from Zetland, NSW near Randwick; and it is licensed by the Northern Territory Gambling Commission.

PlayUp, like all good bookmakers, offers competitive betting odds on a variety of sports and racing products. Additionally, the company is unique with its running of betting tournaments and fanntasy sport betting drafts where punters are given fantasy cash to bet with. Our PlayUP review will run you through what is available for greyhound racing fans, plus the technicalities like deposit options, bonus offers and more.

PlayUp Sign up Bonus

PlayUp have outstanding incentives for Australian punters to sign up and begin betting with them, but none of those positives include a matched deposit sign up bonus offer. Like all other Australian bookies, PlayUp have had to comply with Australian government legislation and ban free bets, bonus bets, promo offers and sign up bonuses; as a result of the Bonus Bet Ban. under new Australian gambling reforms that came in to effect in May 2018, PlayUp cannot legally offer any free bets or sign up bonus offers to Australian residents.

What is the bonus bet ban and does it include PlayUp Bonus Bets?

As of the 26th May 2019 all free bets, bonus bets, sign up bonus offers, deposit bonuses and promo bonuses are banned Australia wide. As a result of gambling reform known as the National Gambling Framework, no Australian licensed bookmaker is legally allowed to offer any sign up offer, bonus, promo deposit bet bonuses or free bet to Australians.

In November 2018, the federal government announced a Nationwide Gambling Framework for the online gambling industry specifically targeted at licensed Australian bookmakers. The National Consumer Protection for Online Wagering laws are designed to shield minors, gambling addicts and other vulnerable sectors of the community from the various advertising and marketing strategies employed by betting operators.

Consequently, in Australia Free Bets have been outlawed. No Australian punter can get any free bet, sign up bonus offer or bet bonus at any Aussie licensed online bookie. Bookmakers are allowed to provide bonuses to punters in the form of cash that have no turnover requirements, are not an inducement to open a new account, and that can be immediately withdrawn.

No Australian bookie is yet to offer real cash bonuses in place of the outlawed free bets.

Yes, the bonus bet ban includes PlayUp.

PlayUp For Greyhound Racing

PlayUp cover ever greyhound racing TAB meeting in Australia with fixed odds markets.

The betting site will also run promotions surrounding greyhound races at select meetings, which can be a great way to safeguard against losses and also increase your bankroll.

PlayUp tournaments

What sets PlayUp apart from the rest of the herd is its revolutionary PlayUp tournaments which are available for both racing and sports fans.

Punters ‘buy in’ to a tournament for which they receive a set amount of “BettaBucks” – fantasy money which is used to wager on events with.

The objective is to finish the tournament with the largest amount of fantasy money – if you are successful you win the kitty or the prize that is being dangled.

You can enter tournaments which award dividends to the first three place getters or winner takes all competitions.

Entry cost into the tournaments varies – from free ranging through to $55 – with regular guaranteed jackpots in some cases topping more than $1000.

Examples of popular betting tournaments include Champions League, NRL/AFL Round tournaments, Saturday racing and greyhound racing.

Traditional fixed odds and betting markets

PlayUp offer wagering on all three codes of racing – greyhound, thoroughbred and harness. For greyhound racing aficionados, you can get fixed odds on all Australian and New Zealand greyhound events as well as mid tote – the middle dividend paid out on the three main totes.

PlayUp also offers betting on a range of sporting events – albeit a narrower selection than many bookmakers on the market – although their odds are competitive with the best of them.

Sporting events which you can wager on include AFL, basketball, rugby league, soccer, tennis, baseball, golf, cricket, ice hockey and motor sports.

One critic is that fixed odds can be slow to appear on the website, often lagging behind many of its competitors – however when they do appear they are certainly competitive and often worth the wait.

Betting with PlayUp on your PC or Mac

The site is easy to navigate – with clear icons on the homepage indicating the different range of betting options – sports, racing and tournaments.

Another key feature to the website is the PlayUp blog which gives readers an insight into the latest betting news, previews and tips.

Placing your bet is also pain free, with a bet slip appearing in a pop up window which makes the process quick and easy.

PlayUp mobile review

For those who like punting on the go, PlayUp has a mobile website which can be viewed through the browser on your phone or mobile device.

However, we recommend downloading the free PlayUp app which is available for smartphones and tablets, with this option much clearer and quicker than trying to navigate the mobile website.

All markets available on your desktop are available through your mobile and on the app, making it a breeze to chuck a bet on when you are out and about.

PlayUp’s apps stack up well next to other bookmaker apps that feature greyhound racing in Australia, with extensive markets and competitive odds available.

Customer service at PlayUp

There is no shortage of help for confused punters with PlayUp, with their dedicated customer service team ready to assist you via phone or online between 8am and 9pm seven days a week.

PlayUp review – is it a good greyhound betting site?

Out of all the greyhound betting sites, PlayUp is probably the newest that we promote on Australian Racing Greyhound and offers some nice points of difference to other brands in the market. PlayUp’s apps are available on both Android and iOS and they are definitely worth downloading if you are looking to wager on mobile, largely because the navigation and speed is better. While writing our PlayUp review we were also pleasantly surprised by how good their odds were surrounding the greyhounds. If there was an area we would like to see improved it is the addition of same race multis, which have been a big hit with greyhound fans. Perhaps this brand is not as well-know as other online bookmakers, but we have no hesitation in recommending them to our readers.
