2024 National Sprint Championship: Meet the Angle Park finalists
The 2024 Group 1 National Sprint Championship state finals were held in six Australian states on Thursday night, August 9, 2024.
While New Zealand did hold qualifying heats, they will need to overcome air-freight bans on handling greyhounds to race in the final, so the National Sprint Championship final will most likely be made up of the six state final winners plus two wildcards.
South Australia will provide both the reserves for the sprint final.
In 2024, the Northern Territory was excluded from the race and was not permitted to hold a qualifying series for either the National Sprint Championship or the National Distance Championship.
The six 2024 National Sprint Championship state final qualifiers are:
- Chapel Road – Kiah Hurley – SA
- Cluster – Selena Zammit – QLD
- Miss Envy – Krystal Shinners – WA
- Sweet Sundown – Patrick Ryan – TAS
- Smooth Plane – Tom Dailly – VIC
- Might Have Been – Minnie Finn – NSW
The Greyhound Club Australia (GCA), formerly the Australian Greyhound Racing Association (AGRA), has set the criteria for the 2024 National Sprint Championship.
In 2024, the final two places in the final will be seeded directly in to the race as wildcards that GCA have seeded and ranked themselves.
The two remaining greyhounds to make up the final field are determined by using the GCA’s wildcard rankings.
Although not formally announced, the two wildcard greyhounds to be added to the 2024 Group 1 National Sprint Championship final should be, in order:
- Uncle Tommy – Steve Withers – WA
- Flying Zulu – Jason Thompson – VIC
Both greyhounds ran in their respective state finals.
