56 new Country Class TAB meetings announced by GRNSW

Greyhound Racing New South Wales () has announced their plans to add an extra 56 TAB race meetings just for “Country Class” greyhounds in the 2024 2025 racing season.

The goal of this expansion is to address concerns about racing opportunities for lower-tier greyhounds following the of tracks.

According to Mr. , the CEO of GRNSW, the strategy involves scheduling these Country Class meetings on both Saturdays and weekdays at venues such as , , , , and .

These new events will offer increased prizemoney compared to the traditional non-TAB races.

It is expected that maiden prizemoney will rise by 45%, with other grade prizes seeing an increase of over 70%.

This announcement comes after GRNSW unveiled their Track Safety & Welfare Strategy for 2024 with a focus on improving track conditions and reducing the number of TAB tracks.

Despite some closures, GRNSW assures trainers that Country Class greyhounds will still have opportunities to participate in NSW Greyhound races.

Mr. Macaulay mentioned receiving enquiries from parts of the industry about how lower-tier greyhounds will continue racing when non-TAB tracks are closing.

He emphasised GRNSW's commitment, to supporting this category of greyhounds.

The upcoming racing schedule, which will be revealed in the coming weeks, promises to provide more details for both owners and trainers.
