Canberran Les Wolhuter opened his account early with Bolting Byrnesy taking out the opening event ahead of Cawbourne Rapid and Pedro’s Mobile in 25.48.
Wolhuter’s second win coming in the eighth event with Careful Move spearing the lids to lead all the way and hold out Sir Pedro by ¾ of a length in 25.75, Book Of Days rounding out the placings.
Ian McFarlane’s Midnight Theory and Mancunian Kool giving the Jerrawa trainer a running double over races five and six.
Short price favourite Midnight Theory recorded her third win since joining the McFarlane kennels back in August, running down early leader Got The Juice to win by a head in 17.96.
Hitting a purple patch of form, three year old, Mancunian Kool made the most of the home track advantage in the Young to Canberra final, having scored the red alley the red fawn dog stepped beautifully to post a smart 8.08, 14.57, 25.58 over Secret Spirit and Gaelic Prince.
The Valley Tavern 0-1 win sprint heats saw good wins to Realon Rapture, Champlane and Half As Mate, with Half As Mate posting the fastest qualifying time of 17.95.
The Kilcoyne Kennels 600m 0-2win heats saw Gai Derrick trained Jaywalking win heat one in 35.11, 4 ¼ lengths clear of Dyna Clara and early leader Carley Cougar.
Heat two went the way of Deadly Grin, for Neil Staines, who lead all the way over well supported Adjust, Classy Kay rounding out the minors, with a winning time of 35.36.
The final event on the card, despite being decimated by scratchings was an open affair with only four lengths separating the four starters.
Milk Run started the best posting a smart 8.09 first section, however it wasn’t to be for the black dog as Victor Lane broke his red rug maiden in a best of the night 25.28.
Racing continues next Sunday, with a SKY Channel meeting, before racing on Melbourne Cup day. Owners and Trainers should take note of the change of nomination times in coming weeks.
