Jodie Gilbert Claims A Canberra Double
In the first of a run of 17 meetings on SKY, Sunday's 11 race card produced some brilliant results for punters, owners and trainers.
Gunning trainer Jodie Gilbert the only trainer to claim a double for the evening, Cawbourne Madge and Cawbourne Tuf, both jumping from box one as short priced favourites giving her the pleasing result.
The Ian McFarlane trained Extent opened the meeting, winning by a convincing 6 ¼ lengths from Cawbourne Sienna and Quiet Success.
Fellow Jerrawa trainer Ken Staines joining the winners circle, taking out the maiden 530 with Exotic Ghost in a smart 30.77 run, ahead of first starters Vapour and Aranda.
In an even non grade sprint it was Molly Ross who claimed the prize after finding her early toe, which has served her so well.
The Collide x Betsy Ross black bitch was clear at the first turn to record best of the night 17.87, ahead of ever consistent Bomba Banquet and Cawbourne Cathy.
Terry and Thelma O'Keefe's Amber's Osti showed why she is the joint Young 347m track record holder after flying the lids with early favourite Miami Lock the Black and White bitch was able to hold out the yellow rug and win by two lengths in 17.94, in the Canberra Greys Sprint Final, Miami Lock and Frida Bale taking out the placings.
In the biggest boil over of the night, in another smart filed it was Milk Run who proved too quick for Kirby Lane and Roxy Eva winning by 5 ¼ lengths in 25.41 paying up to $29 with ACTTAB in the Canberra Mower Services 440 non grade.
The heats of the Kilcoyne Kennels 0-4win heats produced some sensational runs, and a final which will be the highlight of next weeks program.
Lyn White's Smashing Osti winning heat one in best of the night 30.58 the Bannerman camp continuing their good run taking out the minors with Tinashe Bale and Victor Lane.
Going one better in heat two, Margaret's Brencole Bale proved to strong on the line, winning in 30.99 ahead of Awesome Laddie and Compromise.
Morgo's Princess returning punters another healthy dividend of over $10 in taking out the tenth event just pipping Highland Breeze on the line.
Last start winner Winmoore Joe putting it back to back by taking out the last for Amanda Ginn and paying $5 locally to making the trip home to Cudal a little easier.
