McFarlane’s Dominate First Night Back At New Canberra Track
After five weeks off to reconstruct the track, racing in the Nation's Capital returned to it's best on Sunday night, with many predicting better things are still to come.
It was Ian and Lisa McFarlane who dominated the first night back as the Jerrawa based trainers picked up three winners for the evening, including the feature event, the Keith Webb Appreciation.
The McFarlane camp started their run taking out race 6 with Summarise who lead to the first turn, to secure the 18.16 win over John Boy and Stryker's Dream.
First starter Albino Moose took out the next leg of the quaddie leading all the way over Another Stryker and Liz Shawen in 18.02.
It was then down to the Hallucinate x Siyan Doll 32kg black dog to take out the feature event leading from start to finish in 30.82. Notching up a 3 3/4length win over Rocky Crossin' and Millefiiori.
Elated to win the event, trainer Ian McFarlane recognised the work the late Chairman did for the Club.
The opening event of the evening proved the new track surface was in tip top condition with local sprinter Walkaway Freddy making the most of the red box, railing under former kennelmate Teddy Two Bucks to stop the clock at 17.73.
Making the sizeable trip from Victoria, Do Uno Susie, made the trip worthwhile taking out the Maiden 440m event, proving leaders are always handy to have as the black Primo Uno x Bernamar Blitzem bitch was able to get a little lost in her first look at the track but still record a half length win over Rambling Gypsy a nose back to Dalgaz Bob in 25.95.
Having enjoyed the time off, Sweet Rayah returned to Canberra, ready to find form again leading all the way over Pedro's Mobile and Miss Cribaltar in 25.70 to secure her fourth career win.
Artisitic Osti put back to back wins together for Lorraine Roy taking out the 4/5th grade 440m event in a BON performance of 25.64, 1 ¾ lengths ahead of Victorian Rozehill Maddie, the same margin back to Weona Banquet in third.
Odd on favourite Meatlovers kicked off the quaddie posting a personal best of 17.84, 11 lengths clear of Morgo's Babe and Jenmar Goddess.
In the final race of the evening it was Queanbeyan trainer Trevor Peck who saluted with a trainer quinella producing at enjoyable $68 return as Stripe Cadet held out Twilight Sarah in 18.32, topping a wonderful evening.
Canberra continues next week, we hope you will be trackside in the near future to be apart of all the racing action.
