Andrea Has Night To Remember As W.A Derby Likely To Head East
The 2011 W.A Derby looks to be heading to Victoria, after five of the six heats were won by visitors from the garden state. Andrea Dailly led the charge with three winners around Cannington's 530m trip, while big-time trainers Darren McDonald and Graeme Bate chipped-in with one winner each.
The Wheeler family will have a huge impact on the race with half of the final field owned by the prominent family. Dyna Max started their night in style after comfortably winning the opening race of the 14-event card. After an event line out, the erratic antics of Lektra Jay opened the door for Dyna Max, who jumped through the gap and found the front. Running away from that point, Dyna Max gave Andrea Dailly had her first finalist in a time of 30.83.
Recent Launching Pad winner Easy Peasy ever impressive and will enter the final as fastest qualifier. After jumping better than expected, the son of Pure Octane railed well to take control before heading down the back. Doing the chasing was promising sprinter Primordial, but it was no match once the leader hit top gear. Opening right up in the final stages, Easy Peasy recorded 30.36 a name-appropriate victory. Primordial battled away gamely and secured a place in the final courtesy of being the fastest second.
Vocal Enforcer was the best local run of the night after coming from behind to score narrowly in 30.68. After being trapped wide from box six, Vocal Enforcer showed true grit to run down Battsy Monelli in the shadows of the post. He is coming into a very nice vein of form for trainer Andrew Mclaren and looks the best chance to keep the Derby in local territory.
Graeme Bate added his customary Group race finalist after winning the third heat with Allen Elroy. Starting from box five, Allen Elroy was given a saloon passage when Pedro's Finest darted to the rail from box four. Leading all the way in 30.68, the run was good enough to suggest his presence will be felt in the final. Uno Reltub was the hot favourite entering the heat, but was taken out of the race on the first turn and ran last as a result.
Seven races after her first winner, Andrea Dailly had her second finalist when Dyna Bert came from behind to run down local chaser Rumble Zone. Another one to overcome an awkward box draw, Dyna Bert exited box six but was able to brush off some early bumps to drive up behind the leader in the early stage. Turning for home and Rumble Zone got lost and allowed Dyna Bert to scoot through along the rail and score by two lengths. Race favourite Lacomare blew the start and was never in the hunt.
Completing the Dailly domination was Dyna Tron who took the final heat after leading all the way in 30.77. Starting from box one, the son of Collison and Gold Rush Bale (and littermate to Dyna Bert) was far too classy for his rivals. It was Dyna Tron's tenth victory in a third state for this promising young chaser.
It sets the stage for an intriguing final, with nearly every heat winner showing early dash. Easy Peasy will need luck from box eight while Allen Elroy will enjoy the black and white vest. Vocal Enforcer gets his chance from box three and will have to try and hold out the three ‘Dyna' dogs which have drawn alongside each other in five, six and seven. The two fastest seconds in Battsy Monelli and Primordial aren't without a chance after drawing box one and four respectively. Dyna Lowell and Rumble Zone will be reserves for the event.
The $52,000 Group Two W.A Derby final will be run alongside the W.A Oaks final next Saturday night around Cannington's 530m.
