Angle Park trials leave National Sprint Championship betting unchanged

The 2024 1 betting markets were left unaffected by trials from two greyhounds who were well in greyhound betting markets to win the final on Saturday night.

On Monday night, August 19, 2024, NSW National Sprint Champion, Might Have Been, had his first look at the Adelaide circuit, trialling between races over 530 metres.

The Minnie Finn-trained son of Flying Ricciardo and Poco Dorado got around the Angle Park track in 30.56.

Angle Park 530m Solo Trial – Might Have Been (30.56) T: Minnie Finn

NSW greyhound Might Have Been solo trialled over the Angle Park 530 metre distance between races on Monday night, August 19, 2024, running 30.56 for trainer Minnie Finn.

Punters and online bookmakers were unimpressed by the trial, with the needle on the National Sprint Championship betting markets failing to move for Might Have Been.

Might Have Been was quoted as a +400 chance when National Sprint markets opened and is steady at that price.

The same scenario played out for the WA wildcard finalist, Uncle Tommy, who trialled on the same night.

Angle Park 530m Solo Trial – Uncle Tommy (30.46) T: Steve Withers

WA greyhound Uncle Tommy solo trialled over the Angle Park 530 metre distance on Monday night, August 19, 2024, running 30.46 for trainer Steve Withers.

Despite posting a 30.46 solo trial, has continued as the +360 second favourite behind fellow WA greyhound, Miss Envy, who has remained steady at +220.

Remarkably, as of Thursday, August 22, 2024, the only betting movement in the 2024 Group 1 National Sprint Championship betting odds has been a slight firming in odds for the SA National Sprint Championship runner-up, Where’s Poppy.

Where’s Poppy only gained a start in the rich Group 1 race at the expense of the NZ National Sprint Champion, Caterpie Bale, who could not overcome greyhound airfreight travel bans to take its place in the race.

Where’s Poppy has firmed from +1000 into +900.

All other runners remain at the same price.
