Dashing Corsair Named Australia’s Best Greyhound August 2011
AGRA's Greyhound of the Month for August is Queensland superstar Dashing Corsair. The month of August certainly belonged to the Queenslander after the extraordinary circumstances that surrounded his historical win in the National Distance Championship at Albion Park on Thursday August 25th.
Earlier in the month Dashing Corsair won over the 710 at Albion Park on August 4 by 12 lengths, he followed that win with another impressive performance a week later when he again won over the 710 this time by six lengths in 41.98, it was his 125th start.
In the state final of the Group 1 National Distance on August 18th he injured his back during the run-ning of the race and had to be carried from the track. He had finished second to qualify for the National Final but looked in serious doubt about taking his place.
However after treatment he was passed fit to run and the rest is history. After being headed down the back the aging champ came again to record a much celebrated victory. Dashing Corsair retired on the night the only greyhound in history to win a National Sprint (Perth 2009) and a National Distance Championship, he also finished 4th in Distance final in Adelaide last year.
It has been an outstanding career that has taken the versatile chaser all over the country contesting 18 Group race finals nine Group 1, five Group 2 and four Group 3. He has certainly proved a crowd favourite wherever he has raced but particularly in his home state of Queensland.
In August we only had three group races decided. Dashing Corsair beat Group 1 winner Metz Magic. Plus Group 3 winner Velocity Regina for the monthly award.
