Dazzle You Dazzles Tweed Heads Galaxy Final

lived up to his name in the yesterday, blitzing the field to win regional racing's richest purse.

In a dazzling display, the Ferguson family greyhound jumped to the front from the rails box and was never headed as it ran on to record the second fastest time in history (23.06s), just 0.02s from rewriting the record books.

“To see him come out running like that was great. He was on his toes and I couldn't fault him,” trainer Chris Ferguson said.

“He's just returned from injury, so I didn't know if he could back up from Saturday, but inside I knew if he could he would hold it.

“It's my first runner in the Galaxy and it's a great feeling to get the win.”

Inside the track, punters were jostling for position, lining the rails and packing out the grandstands, anxiously waiting to see who would claim the $25,000 winner's cheque.

As soon as the bunny passed, Dazzle You leapt to the front, with pre-race favourite moving quickly into second and pushing the leader to run a 7.09s opening section.

However events played into Dazzle You's paws, and Taipan Bale was quickly forced to shuffle back into the pack as early flyers Hannify's Impact and crowded towards the rail.

Coming around the home turn, Dazzle You shot three lengths clear and continued to pull away, simply outclassing the field and getting up by 4.5 lengths, with Hannify's Impact second and Taipan Bale a further 4.25 lengths adrift in third.

“It's a dog, the form tells you that,” Border Park secretary manager Stephen McGrath said.

“It handled the track remark-ably and was a deserved winner.

“As they say, winners are grinners and it's a tremendous day for both Dazzle You and the Fergusons.”

Dazzle You crossed the line to rousing applause from the large crowd, who made the most of the sunshine on what was the first dry Galaxy day in three years.

After the placings the Galaxy field finished in the following order 4th Diamonds Amore ($17.00), 5th Royal Surfer ($9.00), 6th Classy Kate ($26.00) 7th ($8.00) and Bell's Fair ($26.00).

The Border Park Galaxy was the brain child of legendary club administrator Harry Pledger, Pledger severed a record number of years as club secretary now in his 80's he is still Club president. The name of the race was conceived by Harry and meant a galaxy of stars racing under the stars.

It has been a most sought after feature since it's inception in 1971 and has been won by a number of quick dogs over the horse shoe circuit of 420 metres. Not only do they need to have high speed but also the ability to back up on the Monday after winning their heat on the Saturday.

The race is just as famous for its winners as it is for the cavalcade of top liners that have got beaten trying to win it. It remains the richest non TAB feature race in Australia a mantel it has held since King Doolittle won in 1971. Listed below is the full honour roll.
