Rapid Journey has held the all-time prize money mark since 1998.
Trained by Jason Thompson, of Pearcedale, El Galo is Australia’s No. 1 speedster, and greyhound racing’s biggest drawcard. He has developed a nationwide cult following.
El Galo was crowned the 2008 Australian Greyhound of the Year and 2008 Victorian Greyhound of the Year.
He has won seven Group races, including three at Group 1 level – 2009 Adelaide Cup, 2009 Temlee and 2008 Brisbane Cup.
Of course that total would have been eight Group wins and four Group 1’s but for his positive swab in the 2008 Group 1 Topgun. That $100,000 win would also have seen him clearly Australia’s highest prizemoney winning greyhound but was forfeited when disqualified.
His stud value is estimated at $4-5 million.
