AGRA’s Run of the Month for March 2011 has been awarded to seasoned Victorian sprint star Enry Walt. He won the award for his hard chasing effort to win the Group 2 Horsham Cup at Horsham on March 13th.
In the Cup final Enry Walt begun only fairly from box eight and was back last on settling, however holding his line out wide on the track he raced around the outside into fourth coming to the turn. Still mid field a number of lengths from the leaders turning for home he knuckled down to the task at hand and with a withering burst of speed down the outside he got to win in the shadows of the post racing away to score by two lengths in 27.22. Allen Elroy was second and Greta Bale third both for Graeme Bate.
Enry Walt was racing in his 12th final, and it certainly gave him an edge in big race experience over the rest of the field. He has always liked to use a bit of the track, and was drawn perfectly in box 8. Gary Ennis’ tenacious chasers biggest victory in a star studded carreer has been in the 2010 Group 1 Silver Chief final at the Meadows.
Enry Walt was bred and is raced and trained by veteran conditioner Gary Ennis at Sandhurst in Victoria. He is a Black Dog whelped January 2008 by Primo Uno from Awesome Saint (Awesome Assassin x Little Saint). Enry Walt has won 15 of his 47 starts and has been placed on 15 occasions. His current stake earnings stand at $179,465.
As usual there were some outstanding runs recorded in March but Enry Walt got the nod for his outstanding performance running down a high quality field in a Group 2 final.
AGRA congratulates owner-trainer-breeder Gary Ennis and Enry Walt on being judged the AGRA Run of the Month for March 2011. He joins the previous winners for 2011 Victorian stayer Bobby Boucheau and Queenslander Bogie King.
