Miss Slick Is AGRA March Greyhound Of The Month
The Australian Greyhound Racings Association's (AGRA) Greyhound of the Month for March 2009 is Western Australian sprinter star Miss Slick. Since she commenced racing in the west back in June 2007 she has been a top grade performer all of her career.
No stranger to group success in 2008 she won the Group 2 WA Oaks and later in the year the Group 2 Schweppes All Stars. However after racing brilliantly in the lead up to this year's Perth Cup she proved too good in the run to the line to win the Group 1 feature, her home state's most prestigious event.
Miss Slick commended the month with an excellent second behind Victorian Mantra Lad on March 7th in the Group 3 WA Interstate Challenge. The run was full of merit as the winning time was 30.07 and field contained a crack number of sprinters from all parts of the country.
The following week on March 14th in her heat of the Perth Cup Miss Slick in her usual racing style after receiving a few checks in running she came from fourth early and run down Javis Bale in 30.44 to take her place in the Perth Cup.
In the final Miss Slick settled in second some four lengths behind the leader Trew Millions, however as she approached the home corner she dug deep and reeled in the Victorian as they got to the line to score WA's first victory since local chaser Nifti Fire won in 2000 for Jodie Harding.
Miss Slick was to take her place in a heat of the Easter Egg last Saturday night but was scratched and did not make the trip to Sydney. She will no doubt continue her race career in Western Australia and should improve on her 25 wins at the state's premier track Cannington.
Miss Slick is raced, trained and was bred by Max & Pam Julien she is a Black bitch by Bombastic Shiraz from Little Lamplight (Light Of Fire x Ginsin). Miss Slick has won 25 of her 61 starts and has been placed on 23 occasions her current stake earnings stand at $354,220.
In a very competitive month Miss Slick edged out Group one winner, Western Land plus Group two winners, Velocette and Millennium for the monthly award.
The AGRA would like to congratulate owners Max & Pam Julien, trainer Max Julien and Miss Slick on being awarded the AGRA March Greyhound of the Month.
She joins Gunnadoo Magic and Velocette as the AGRA Greyhound of the Month winners in 2009.
