Earlier this year two sisters ran the quinella in the Group One Sapphire Crown at Sandown Park. The two sisters were by Vapour Whirl and Footluce (Hallucinate – Scarlett) and they were Oakvale Destiny and Oakvale Flyer.
Fast forward to a Thursday night at Angle Park in early September 2014 and again, two sisters quinella a feature race. This time, it is the Group Three SA Oaks and Oakvale Destiny is the winner. This time it is another sister, Footluce Diva, joining her on the podium as runner-up.
The race ended up panning out perfectly for Oakvale Destiny (4). Emerley Senorita (2), a noted wide runner, began well and led the field into the first turn. She shifted off the track meaning there was space inside of Oakvale Destiny in the early stages. Both Mepunga Hayley (3) and Oakvale Destiny (4) were slow away at box-rise. Oakvale Destiny mustered pace quicker than her kennel-mate, took advantage of the gap created by Emerley Senorita, and secured a handy position on the rail turning into the back straight. Emerley Senorita was still a few lengths clear at this stage but Oakvale Destiny was just too close and looked the winner at that point. She soon swept under Emerley Senorita and scored by four and a half lengths in 29.69. Footluce Diva plugged away to grab Emerley Senorita in the closing stages of the race to claim second position. Emerley Senorita held on for third.
Oakvale Destiny has now won 10 from 23 and has earned connections close to $170,000 in prizemoney. Oakvale Destiny is owned by Nathan Wilson and trained by Jeff Britton.
