John Mooney further endorsed his reputation as one of the countries finest trainers of stayers, when Other Quoted revived ememories of Best Quoted and her dam by winning the 2008 Sydeny Cup.

Wentwoth Park 720 metre track record holder Chinatown Lad (4/7), Varvatos (5/2) and Fallen Zorro (11/2) were expected to dominate the Group 2 2008 Pages Event Hire Sydney Cup but the underrated Others Quoted produced one of the greatest upsets in Group racing history last Saturday night.

Sent out a $51 outsider, the youngster jumped straight to the lead and defied all challenges to run her down to win by 1 ½ lengths in the excellent time of 42.31

Others Quoted is trained by John Mooney for and the popular veteran trainer is renowned for spectacular 2005/06 racing seasons when Last Quoted, the dam of Others Quoted and the youngster's more illustrious aunt Best Quoted won numerous Group races Australia wide.

In fact Best Quoted, a greyhound of the year finalist who regularly raced against champion stayers Texas Gold and Royal Riddle in that period won five Group races including the Sandown Cup, the NCA Gold Cup and the Easter Chase while Last Quoted won the Albion Park Gold Cup and the prestigious Maidment Memorial at Sandown.

So far the Sydney Cup had eluded Mooney as he struck the likes of Texas Gold and Royal Riddle at their finest. However at a far younger age and with far less race experience Others Quoted took out the one major NSW distance race that had eluded Mooney.

All honours were with Others Quoted though as she brilliantly outpaced champion front runner Chinatown Lad and proven Group finalist to the lead before rallying bravely to hold off second elect Varvatos.

Varvatos loomed large on the home turn and was probably going to make a race of it with Other Quoted, but the budding distance star who has been touted as “the next big thing” in the NSW staying ranks; burst that bubble by electing to faling to chase in the run to the line and was officially stood down for 28 days for “”.

Fallen Zorro came in third ½ length further back without ever threatening. The favourite could not repeat its track record breaking form ending up in fourth place.

The dog went into the final as the least experienced with 15 starts, in front of which had 24. Gunnadoo Magic had the record of the most starts- 51.

Chinatown Lad, who we recognised as racing below his best at present, missed the start and was never a winning chance.

After the placed runners the field finished in the following order Chinatown Lad ($2.00), Gunnadoo Magic ($11.70), Sassy Sprite ($26.40), Octane Al ($42.10) and Double Trouble ($27.30).

She is by History Lesson from Last Quoted (Token Prince x Miss Quoted) she has raced 16 times for seven wins and five placings with the Sydney Cup first prize of $25,000, it took her overall stake earnings to $37,570.
