Sunshine State Claims The Group Two Sandown Shootout

Iva Vision, trained by Peter Young, has given the Sunshine State its first victory in the Sandown Shootout after an emphatic display tonight over the 515 metre sprint.

Stepping cleanly from box three in the half field, the son of Ivan Brown and Visualization was able to find the early lead around the first turn and skip away from his opposition.

Down the back there was only one danger, the first reserve Oakvale Destiny, but she was unable to get the better of the Queenslander who strode to the line one and a quarter lengths clear of this year’s Sapphire Crown winner to score in an impressive 29.27.

Race favourite, Allen Deed, began well but was turned sideways around the first turn when he collided with Awesome Project. The bump put both of them out of play with Awesome Project recovering to finish third while Allen Deed was the fourth and final runner to cross the line.

Iva Vision’s win in the Group Two feature takes his record to 12 wins and three seconds from 18 career starts, with tonight’s $50,000 winner’s cheque taking his prize money earnings to just under $110,000.

The exciting black greyhound has now won two Group events, having won the Group Three SA Derby final at Angle Park in September.

Iva Vision will now target the Group One Melbourne Cup, with heats of the $420,000 to the winner race commencing next Thursday at Sandown Park.
