As the leader Star Diamond started to shorten stride Symmetry swept pass him racing away to conformably win in the run to the line.

Symmetry has been a mighty chaser for connections having been runner-up in the 2010 Melbourne Cup behind the brilliant El Grand Senor he has won the Group 1 Sale Cup and the Group 2 Rookie Rebel at the Meadows. The Dawson was his 11th Group race final all contested over a number of different distances.
